Students to Compete in Special Olympics North Carolina Special Olympics will have athletes from six local programs competing in the sixth annual Russell E. Blunt Invita tional Track and Field Meet to be held June 18-19 in Durham. This is the third year that NCSO has participated in the meet Over 30 athletes and coaches will attend from Durham, Granville, Forsyth, Nash, Robeson and Wake counties. The meet, which will be held at Duke University's Wallace Wade Stadium, is being hosted by the Durham Striders Track Club in association with the NC Amateur Sports. North Carolina Special Olympics offers year-round athletic training and sports competition for over 22,000 athletes with mental retardation. Through a statewide network of thousands of coachcs, sports officials, local program com mittee members and event organiz ers, NCSO offers competition in 18 sports in Olympic-style games on the local and state level. There are six competitors from Forsyth County including: Tasha Torrence, Jennifer Polk, Reginald Hairston, Roger Thompson, Iv Smith and Willie Andrews. RoadRunner Compete in Track Meet The Roadrunncr Track Club competed in the Greensboro Sec tional Track Meet last Sunday . The NC USA Track and Field Junior Olympic State Championship in Boone, North Carolina at Appalachian State University will be held on June 26 and 27.
