Volunteers Dedicate Playground
Equipment to Cleveland Avenue Homes

Winston-Salem Housing
Authority officials held a ribbon
cutting ceremony on June 23 for the
dedication of new playground
equipment at the Cleveland Avenue
Homes community.
Art Milligun. the housing
authority's executive director, and
Mayor Martha S. Wood were on
hand to praise those who were
responsible for the new equipment.
James Rousseau, vice president
of planning and development for
ForsythTechnical Community Col
lege and one of those who led the
effort for the new equipment, said
Jungle Gyms, swings and ladders
represented a "positive" effort from
the housing authority , the Winston
Salem Police Department and the
city's Recreation Department.
Rousseau. &ho said the equip
rnent cost over $5,000, also credited
Police Officer Mike Carico, who
patrols the community on foot, for
bringing the playground's disrepair
to the attention of neighborhood
leaders.
"This cooperative effort is typi
cal of the way problems are solved
in this community," said Rousseau,
a member of the Cleveland Avenue
Task Force.
