The National Black Golf Hall of Fame was founded in 1986 by Harold Dunovant The purpose for establishing this hall of fame is to recognize and honor the contribu tions of black golfers and their skills and to honor persons who have done the most to promote golf in the black communities. There have been a lot of black golfers who were overlooked sim plybecause of their color, and it is also realized that there have been a lot of people, both black and white, who have worked hard to promote black golf. This hall of fame is open to anyone who meets the qualifica tions, regardless of race, color or greed. Arnold Palmer was one of the first inductees. He was selected in the special category for persons who have contributed the most to promote black golf. Junior Golf Exposure Grassroots Program Gives Exposure to Black Junior Citizens The Junior Golf Exposure Grassroots Program brings quality golf instruction and exposure to the black and underprivileged junior citizens who live in Forsyth County. It is a known fact that people who live in the black communities and some underprivileged people who live outside of the black com munities throughout the country have not been exposed to the game of golf. It is the program's goal to teach the black youth and juniors the game of golf. This junior golf program will focus on quality. It has one of the countries most experienced black golf pros as its director, Harold Dunovant, Class A PGA for 21 years. He has been a pro for 39 years. Dunovant has chosen four experienced black pros for his staff: Joe Johnson, Jim Conrad, Waddell Fair and Mohammed Hurb. This program will run five weeks. Each student will get a one week session with 10 students per instructor. Students will be taught the basic fundamentals of golf, the rules of golf, conduct on a golf course, and the proper use of golf clubs. Guest appearances by out standing pros and a picnic at the end of the five-week program for the student and his family will also be featured. To qualify, you must be between the ages of 8-17. Admis sion is free. The next sessions will be held July 26-30 and Aug. 2-6. For more information, call Harold Dunovam at 727-1113, or write 1629 E. Third St, Apt. 208-B, Winston Salem, N.C 27101.
