Religion BRIEFS Church to Honor Associate Pastor Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church will honor the Rev. Robert Ford Fowler, an associate pastor of the church, this Sunday at 3 p.m. during its Appreciation Day Ser vice. The Rev. Joseph Samuels will be the guest speaker and will be accompanied by the choirs and members of St. Stephens Baptist Church. Fowler, a native of Laurens, S C., is one of 10 children born to the late Oliver and Lillie Fowler. He was a member of Center Rabin Bap tist Church in Laurens. He came to Winston-Salem in 1937 and joined Mars Hill Baptist Church. He was ordained to preach the gospel by the late Rev. W.E. Samuels at Mars Hill in 1943. He is a veteran of the Unit ed States Army. Fowler attended Moody Bible Institute and has served as pastor of Phillips Chapel and Holy Trinity Baptist churches. He has served as the interim pastor at Zion Hill on two occasions. Fowler has served the Zion Hill congregation faithfully in Sunday School, choirs, Bible Study, and as assistant pastor to the late Rev. O.B. Cook, the founder and first pastor of the church. He has also assisted the Rev. John H. Walker, the second pastor of the church. He currently serves as assistant pastor to the pre sent pastor, the Rev. Lacy E. Simp son Jr., and is the director of the Vocal Choir. He is married to the former Teretha Hag ins and is the father of four children. The public is invited. ? 26th Anniversary The 26th pastoral anniversary of Bishop Robert Wise Sr., pastor and general overseer of Macedonia Holiness Church of God of the Apostolic Faith lnc.t will be cele ' brated July 15-18. Services will be held nightly at 7:30 p.m. and will conclude with a 4 p.m. service on Sunday. Local ministers and their congregations will lead services. Wise's ministry spans over 33 - years and includes a radio broadcast that has run interrupted for 28 years. Under his leadership the church has and continues to prosper in all phas es of the ministry. The public is invited. The church is located at 4111 Whitfield - Drive. ? Choir in Concert The Mass Choir of Beulah Bap tist Church of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. will be in concert at Goler Metro politan A.M.E. Zion Church this Saturday at 7 pjn. Members of the mass choir will be accompanied by their pastor, the Rev. Jesse V. Bot toms Jr., who will preach in Rei dsville on Sunday. The public is invited. Crusade Held An ecumenical crusade was held at Lakeside Apartments on State Street and Harrington Circle last Saturday for the purpose of soul-saving. The Rev. Virginia Hoyle-Wofford, a Baptist minister who is a recent graduate of Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, organized and sponsored the cru sade. Zion Crowns 1993 Lowery Baby David Daniel Lowery III, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Daniel Lowery Jr., was crowned the 1993 Gaylee Lowery Baby of Ml Zion Baptist Church. The crowning took place in the File-Goodwin Life Enrichment Center at the church on June 20 during the annual cele bration of the church's Ruth Mis sionary Group. * Whitney Renee Hickman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hickman, was first runner-up. AJjoumal Elovett Franklin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A1 journal Franklin Sr., was second runner-up. The Rosebud Babies is a pro ject of the Ruth Missionary Group of the church that was suggested in 1972 by the late Gaylee Brown Lowery to the parents of each bom bom in the church's congregation. With the death of Mrs. Low ery, the Ruth Group decided to name its annual fund-raising pro ject in her honor. Funds raised in the effort go toward missions and education project in the church. Deacon Joseph Lowery has contin ued to support the Ruth Missionary Group by furnish ing flowers for the project. Clara Cloud, program chairper son, presided at the celebration. Gloria Jones read the scripture. Emma Williams led the prayer. Marian Hairston sang two musical selections. Ruth Gilmore gave a history of Rosebud Babies. Minnie Jones presented the Rosebud Babies. Smith was the speak er. Having traveled to Israel and Egypt three times in the 1980s, Smith blended her travel experi ences and Old Testament scrip tures and spoke of the lives of Ruth and David in story and travelogue form. She related their kinship and stressed their strong faith in God.
