Baptist Association to Convene The 104th Annual Session of the High Point Educational and Missionary Baptist Association will convene through July 30 in the headquarters building in Stoneville. The general theme is "I fought a good fight," taken from n Timothy 4:6-8. The Rev. W.E. Brannon, a 50-year member of the association, will end a four-year tenure as mod erator at the close of the session. For the past 50 years, Brannon has served twice as vice moderator for a total of five years and twice as recording secretary for a total of seven years. He is a member of the Executive Board, Trustee Board and the Ordination Examining Council. . J ' * Brannon will deliver his annual address today at 2 p.m. A proces sional march of all officers, the Executive Board, Trustee Board, guest moderators, pastors, ministers and the four auxiliary officers will precede the address. Denise Wallington, Youth Auxiliary presi dent, will give a tribute to Brannon. Thirty-six churches and more than 60 ministers are members of the association. The churches are from Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Burlington, Mebane, Oak Ridge, Glen Raven, Gibsonville, Asheboro, Rob bins, Brown Summit, High Point and Mt Airy. _ Under Brannon* s leadership, the association has established a headquarters building. The educa tional wing, named after the late REv. W.L. Wilson, houses a kitchen, dining room, 17 class rooms, offices, lounge and lodging rooms. The assembly hall, named in honor of Brannon and a memorial to former leadership, has a seating capacity of 1 ,000 and was air condi tioned under his leadership. The four auxiliaries have con tinued to grow and remain active. The auxiliaries are: the Ushers Con vention (Ernest Holt, president); Sunday School Convention (Willie Conrad, president); Youth Auxiliary (Denise Wallington, president); and Woman's Auxiliary (Mary Crank, president, with President Emeritus William Gwyn and Annie M. Lewis). The auxiliaries have assisted in furnishing the headquar ters building, landscaping the Rev. W?. Brannon grounds and implementing leader ship training programs for the past four years. ? Under Brannon 's leadership, new pastors were named to serve on the Executive Board and mote men and women were elected from churches to serve on the Trustee Board and other committees. The association and auxiliaries have increased their support of Cen tral Children's Home in Oxford, Shaw University and Shaw Divinity School in Raleigh, General Baptist Convention of North Carolina Inc., National Baptist Convention of USA Inc.. and the Lou Carey Bap tist Foreign Mission Convention. They have continued to assist students and ministers in higher education through annual scholar ships. Support is given to widows, retired ministers and the sick and shut-ins. Prison ministry and com munity, state, national and interna tional relief projects have been sup ported under Brannon's leadership. Brannon is a native of Louisville, Ky. and has lived in Winston-Salem for more than 60 years. He is the son of the late William and Millie Brannon and the fourth of seven children. He is married to the late Martha Hairston Brannon. He is the father of one son, Jonathan; one daughter, Gail; and four grandchil dren. He is a graduate of Carver High School and holds a bachelor of arts in systematic theology from Livingstone College and a master of Church to Host Choirs Saints Home United Methodist Church will present the Tots and Teens Choir of First Corinthians Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah, Ga. and the Union Bap tist Day Care Singers in concert at 5 p.m. this Sunday at the church, 1390 Thurmond St The Tots and Teens Choir is directed by Paulette Hendrix. New Hope to Hold Revival New Hope Missionary Baptist Church will hold its annual revival Aug. 1-6. The Rev. Ray L. Watlington and the congregation of Phillips Chapel Baptist Church will be the guests this Sunday at 4 p.m. The Rev. Paul Lowe of Shiloh Baptist Church will be the evangelist for the week. The School of Religion in Charlotte honored him with the doctor of divinity degree. He served the U.S. Navy during World War II and was awarded five bronze stars and cita tions for bravery. Brannon joined Morning Star Baptist under the pastorate of the late Rev. T.S. Staten in 1943. He was licensed in the ministry by the church when he was 17. TT*e High Point Association ordained him in ministry under the late Rev. W.L. Wilson in 1951. He has been a pas tor at Ml Carmel Baptist Church (1945-1960), United Progressive Baptist Church (1960-1962), Went wonh Baptist Church in Reidsville (1955-1982), Canaan Baptist Church (1970 to present), and Cataecone Baptist Church in Rei dsville (1983 to present). Brannon serves on the board of the General Baptist Convention of North Carolina and the Moderator's Auxiliary of the National Baptist Convention of USA Inc. He is affil iated with and studies at the National Baptist Congress of Chris tian Education. The High Point Association and auxiliary sponsors an annual trip- to congress.
