Yes, in the basketball-crazy world of the CIAA, they play baseball, too. And this season, Norfolk State played it best. The Spartans rolled to a 24-13 record and finished one of the most successful sports seasons in school history by win ning the CIAA championship. It was Norfolk State's seventh straight. The Spartans had some help, though. Norfolk State hosted the CIAA cham pionship and also played from the No. 1 sccd, thanks to their 12-3 CIAA record. In the championship final, the Spar tans had an easy time of things ? this was a familiar theme for Norfolk, at least against CIAA opponents ? beating Bowie State 13-2. And for Norfolk coach Marty Miller, it was his 16th CIAA conference title in 21 years at Norfolk State. Amazing? Uh-huh. Was Norfolk's sports year amazing? Uh-huh. ? By LANGSTON WERTZ JR.
