Twenty Recruits Join Rank of City's Finest With pomp and circumstance, - 20 police recruits took the oath of office last week and joined the ranks of the Winston-Salem Police Department. The Honor Guard opened the ceremony with a Presentation of the Colors, then greetings were made by Mayor Martha S. Wood. The commencement address - was presented by Judge Loretta C. Biggs, who expressed words of encouragement along with a tasteful bit of humor. Biggs ended her speech with a poem of encourage ment when things seem sometimes at their worst. For the first time the Public Safety Telecommunicators were part of the ceremony with IS gradu ates. Larry Leon Hamlin, the pro ducer and artistic director of the fes tival, said that Tinman' s departure from the festival is due to "his acceptance of a new film rote that begins immediate shooting. "We are sorry to lose Glynn, but we think Lange will fill his - shoes well," Hamlin said.
