The Titans sport a perfect 6-0 mark while West Forsyth, which defeated Reynolds, 20-0, is 5-0-2. Reynolds lost for just the second time this season and is now 4 2 for the year. North Forsyth upped its record to 4-3 as it smashed Eden Morehead, 58-0, as Allan Caesar scored three touchdowns, including one on a 66-yard run. James Slade added a pair of scores for the ? Vikings: 7 Quarterback Chad Stoltz and running back Rock ie Hinson also scored for North. Qeuwanne Anthony, a freshamn, who, according to North coaches weighs ? less than 100 pounds, scooped up a loose ball late in the game and went 87 yards for the final touchdown. The loss gives Morehead a 1-3-1 mark. Carver won its second consecutive game with a 28-12 victory over winless Parkland. The Mustangs dropped to 0-6 while Carver is now 2-4-1. In Mocksville, Mt. Tabor overcame a 14-0 Davie County halftime advantage for a 22-14 victory, hand ing Davie County its first loss of the season after five straight wins. Mt. Tabor is now 3-2-1 while Davie County is 5-1'. Glenn High School registered a 38-0 shoutout of Central Davidson as the Bobcats went over the .500 East Forsyth heads onto the field before claiming 44-6 win over Greensboro Grimsley. mark at 4-3. JesseOree's 155 took second while Bobby Wofford had a 157 to capture a close third place. While the 1994 CIAA Basketball tournament isn't scheduled to be played until next spring, Virginia Union and North Carolina Central were selected as pre-season favorites to win the North and South Divi sion regular season championships respectively at the 1993-94 CIAA Basketball Media Day and Basketball Roundup at Joel Coliseum. Virginia Union won the Northern Division last year as well as the tournament. North Carolina Cen tral, which defeated Virginia Union in the Mid-South Regionals last year, was chosen to retain its Southern Division title. The 1994 tournament, set for Joel Coliseum Feb ruary 19-27 feature the 14 conference members from North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. Virginia Union, NCCU Are Pre-season Picks in CIAA Basketball ? A Coaches hold media day and basketball roundup Monday at Joel Coliseum - Coach Dave Robbins of Virginia Union, which won the national Division 1 1 championship two years ago and was 27-3 overall and 19-0 in CIAA play last year, expects his team to do well again this season. Robbins, one of the most successful coaches in Division 1 1 with a 371-90 record in 16 seasons, said, "We're big, deep and experienced. We should be very tough." There will be four new coaches in the conference. The Rams new mentor, Thomas Snowden, replaced Coach Clarence "Bighouse" Gaines, said he expects his team, picked to finish fifth, to progress slowly. Snowden indicated this would be a learning year for his team with only six players returning. Other new coaches are Steve Joyner, a Winston Salem native, at Johnson C. Smith. His brother. Ed ? Joyner, served as assistant at Smith pnor to taking the head job at St. Paul's this year. Ricky Duckett, a Winston-Salem native, is in his first season at Fayetteville State. The Broncos were selected to finish fourth in Southern Division play. ?4 In women's play, St. Augustine's was picked in the Southern Division while Hampton got the nod in the Northern Division.Hythia Evans is the new coach of the women's team at Smith. Conference officials were welcomed by Assistant City Manager Tom Fredericks, speaking on behalf of Mayor Martha Wood. The tournament was held in Richmond, Va., last year and was aggressively wooed by Winston-Salem to move here.
