Arts Council to Sponsor Holiday Exhibition to Open December 1 6 The dictionary tells us that an artist is "one who professes and practices an imaginative art." Being imaginative can involve creating something never seen before or tak ing things already in existence and making them new. The artist among us discover a way to arrange and construct objects of our everyday world into a new order that conveys personal thoughts, feelings, and ideas ? and most importantly ? the truth. TKe African -American artist and educator Willis Bing Davis out lines the importance of the artists in our society when he slates," The very survival of mankind demands that we learn not or\ly how to inter act. learn, work and live with our neighbors across the street and across town; but, also, our extended neighbors around the globe. The arts can, if allowed and properly uti lized, play a major role in this vital task of understanding, appreciation and valuing others." The mission of The Art Council is, in part, to promote awareness, understanding and appreciation of the arts by providing a series of pro grams and activities which are tai lored to meet the needs of the diverse, ethnic and cultural popular tions of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. With this goal in mind and to celebrate the artist of our commu nity, The Arts Council annually pre sents the Holiday Expo Exhibition. The Holiday Expo Exhibition is open to all artist in the Triad.
