Camp to
Begin
Spartan Basketball Camp will
be held June 13-17 at Mt. Tabor
> High School, 342 Petree Road, j
Any student entering grades 6-10
this fall is eligible to attend. Each
camper is covered by a group acci
^ dent insurance policy. An experi
enced trainer will be on duty at all
times. All campers must provide
?their own lunch. Lunch will be
taken up every morning when the
camper arrives and will be put in a
bin. Bins will be marked according
to the league in which the camper
plays.
Tuition is S125. This fee
includes a T-shirt and insurance. A
$25 deposit is required with the
application and will be deducted
from the total tuition cost. If a
. camper registers the day of camp
without turning in an application^
prior to June 1, the cost will ber
$150.
. The ratio of campers to staff is
9 to 1. Staff includes Andy Muse,
Greg King, Dick Jamback, Lanny
Cook, Dennis Ring, Frank Martin,
Mike Esposito, Ed Wise and Char
lie J arm an.
Each camper should wear a T
shirt, gym shorts, socks and basket
ball shoes.
Campers will enjoy a week of
outstanding basketball instruction
designed for players of all skill lev
els. They will be grouped accord
ing to age, sex, physical maturity
and overall ability. The campers
- will be under the supervision of -
coaches with high school or col
lege experience at all times.

Sophomore Roberto Caval
cante won the NCAA Division II
National Singles Championship,
defeating Rodrigo Urzua of Lander
College (S.CJ 6-3.6-4, The team
and individual championships were
held in Kansas City, Missouri.
Cavalcante, a native of Sao
Paulo, Brazil, became the first
Pirate to win a national champi
onship in individual competition
since Roger de Santis Guedes and
Bruce Foxworth teamed up in 1976
to win the national doubles title.
Cavalcante finished the year
with an impressive 34-1 record. He
?suffered, his only setback against
Oliver Mayo of Virginia Tech in his
first match of the season (Feb. l-S-,- -
1994).
Going into the national tourna
ment, Cavalcante was the number
one ranked singles player in the
country.
