Guest were able to view one of the 32 units while enjoying refreshments. HAWS Executive Director Arthur Milligan said the Housing Authority bought the complex in in 1990-1991 and decided to make it a model place for affordable hous ing. With a loan from the city several changes were made in the then shabby complex. Air conditioners were put in all units, new water heaters, new floors and new roofs were added. Bathroom fixtures were refurbished and new paint and siding to give the units an new look. "This is an example of what affordable housing can be," Milligan said. "And it does not always have to be sub sidized. It also shows what can happen when there is coopera tion between the Housing Authority and the City." All of the units have been assigned and each has either three, four or five bedrooms.
