Local Masons Elected to National Officers As the National Supreme Council A. & A. S. R. Masons and Auxiliaries and the~National Grand Chapter O.E.S. held its (31st National Convention here in Winston-Salem, last week at the Radisson Marque and the Adams Mark Hotel. S.P. Terrence D. Langford 32 \ Worshipful Master of Pro gressive Lodge #310 A. & A. S.R. Masons of Winston Salem NC was elected to offices of the National Supreme Council A. & A.S.R. Masons of U.S.A. He was elected on the National Grand Council of Deliberation as "National Grand Financial Sec retary** and on the National Grand Consistory he was elected to "National Grand Orator and Minister of State** of the National Council of Delibera tion. Both Lodge brothers were on the State committees to orga nize the National Picnic that was held at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons NC, on August 13. National Award Banquet held at the Radisson Marque Hotel where the O.E.S. distrib uted over $12,000 in donations tot he United Negro College Fund, Inc., NAACP Winston Salem Chapter, Cancer Fund, Children Fund and Downtown YMCA. Masons Superior Court Judge, Winston Salem was in attendance with his greetings while the Honorable Vivian Burke Aldermen-North east Ward Winston-Salem was the guest speaker with hw thun derous speech on "Together We Rise and Black Women working in the Community" at the Annual Award Banquet of the National Grand Chapter, O.E.S. and Imperial Grand Court, Daughter of Isis of the A. & A.S.R. Masons. Hairston's Set Standards in Higher Education Edward E. Hairston of Wal nut Cove, NC recently received his Doctor of Education in Edu cational Administration from Virginia Polytechnic and State University in Blacksburg, Va. Dr. Hairston is the son of Joe and Elizabeth Hairston of Wal nut Cove and the son-in-law of Doshie Davis Anderson of Win ston-Salem. He is currently the principal of Southeastern Stokes Middle School in Walnut Cove. His wife Marian is a teacher at Walnut Cove Primary School. They are the parents of two sohi and a daughter. Ashley is a doctoral student at the University of Virginia where he teaches English. Todd is a senior at Wake Forest Uni versity. Their daughter Melody is a freshman at Wake Forest. Dr. Hairston 's doctoral dis sertation, A Positive Profile of Role Models for Young African American Males, provides Edward E. Hairs ton detailed analysis of the impact of adult male role models on the lives of young African-American malee and investigates the inter play of social psychology and education. The text provides sugges tions for homes, communities, and schools which seek instruc tion in the process of cre^rrfg^ positive educational environ merrts for all students. Dr. Hairston received his Bachelor of Science in Mathe matics and Master of Science degree in Educational Adminis tration from NC A&T State Uni versity and received an Educa tional Specialist degree from Appalachian State University. Melody Rochelle Hairston, daughter of Edward and Marian Hairston of Walnut Cove, was recently awarded an academic scholarship to Wake Forest Uni versity. Melody was a 1995 honor graduate of South Stokes High School in Walnut Cove. Among other honors she was a member of the Beta >Club, National Honor Society, French Club, Band, and served on the Stokes County Teacher of the Year Committee as a senior represen tative.
