Habitat for Humanity conferees are, left to rights Amos McClendon, Robert Stevenson, Lester Ervin, Linda S. Dekle, Avon Harding, Robert Young and Calvin Knight. Knollwood Baptist Bible/Sunday school classes consider building Habitat home The Men's Bible Class at Knollwood Baptist Church and Sunday School Classes 1 and 3 at Mt. Zion Baptist have studied and broken bread and fellow shipped together during the cur rent year. At a recent meeting, they considered the possibility of showing "God's Love in Action" by building/sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity Home. On Sept. 22, they consid ered what is involved in such an undertaking at a breakfast held at Mt.. Zion. The classes invited Linda N. Dekle, Lester Ervin and Avon Harding to speak at the meeting where they dis cussed the project. Dekle is the CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth Coun ty. Harding is a member of the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity for Forsyth Coun ty. Harding and Ervin are mem bers of the Highland Avenue First Baptist Church. First Bap tist and Wake Forest University Baptist Church have built a Habitat for Humanity Home. Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County was organized in 1985. It had constructed 50 homes by July 1996. It will build 10 more by the end of 1996. Habitat for Humanity urges churches, businesses and other groups to sponsor the building of a particular house by furnishing volunteer labor and funds. To be eligible for a Habitat for Humanity House, a person must: ?be a member of a family of at least three persons ?have had a stable income for at least 18 months ?have lived in Forsyth County for at least 12 months ?be within the income guidelines ?have reasonably good credit ?be living in overcrowded or insubstantial housing . *be willing to partner with Habitat to earn 250-350 "Sweat Equity Hours." A Habitat House is the only realistic chance for virtually all families that meet the above guidelines to own a home. The mortgage payments are usually substantially less than their for mer rent. Dellabrook celebrates 40th with revival The Dellabrook Church, 115 Dellabrook Rd., will cele brate its 40th church anniver sary Oct. 14-20. Revival ser vices will be held Monday through Friday at 7 p.m. at the church. The celebration will conclude with a banquet Satur day night in the fellowship hall of Highland Presbyterian Church and with one of the for mer pastors delivering the word on Sunday at the 1 1 a.m. wor ship service. The following people will be guests during the week: Monday, the Rev. William Fails and the First Baptist Church of j High Point; Tuesday, the Rev. Donald Jenkins and the St. Paul United Methodist Church ;v Wednesday, Dr. Samuel Steven son and the Grace Presbyterian Church; Thursday, Dr. Serenus Churn and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Friday, the revival ser vices will end with the preach ing presence of "the dean of black preachers," Dr. Garner C. Taylor, pastor emeritus of the Concord Baptist Church of Christ of Brooklyn, N.Y. Saturday the banquet will begin at 7 p.m. The special guest speaker for that event will xbe Dr. Alton Pollard III, associ ate professor of religion, Wake Forest University. Students unite to stay drug/violence-free operation Will Power was formed as the result of a mass rally held hy Statement Inc. at Glenn High School in Winston Salem. At the rally, over 600 students pledged to remain free from drugs, violence, guns, and imprisonment. Hooker Jr. PsyCare to hold seminar PsyCare of the Triad will sponsor "The Process for Fac ing, Coping and Overcoming Grief," a seminar by Willie A. Booker Jr., a therapist whose concentrations are interpersonal relationships, grief couseling and violence prevention. The seminar will he held Oct. 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Goler Memori al A.M.E.
