Bishop T.D. Jakes, senior pastor of Temple -of Faith Min istries, in Charleston. W.Va., will conduct the well-known "Manpower 4" conference in Greensboro, N.C. The event will take place in the Greensboro Coliseum Spe cial Events Center. Men of all races, ages, and professions, and believers and non-believers from across the country are expected to attend the conference, bringing more than $6.5 million to the Triad. Jakes has successfully reached thousands of men through the Manpower confer ences since its inception and is back for the fourth year to reach more men all over the country. During the conferences, participants will attend power ful teaching and preaching ses sions on a variety of subjects, all of which are designed to enhance their daily lives as well as magnify their strengths to take back home to their fam ilies. The conference will also address many compelling issues in the news, such as racism, the increase in male suicide, and bringing men back to the church. Thousands of teens are expected to attend a separate session that will deal with drugs, violence, gun control, self-esteem, peer pressure, and how to become greater men for the future. As prison and prison over crowding continue as an issue of growing concern across the nation, Jakes decided it) touch those inmates who are confined to the walls of prison. The three-day conference will be televised via satellite into more than 40 prisons throughout the Southeast. "I feel that repeat offenders are not getting the proper reha bilitation that is required for men to become productive citi zens," Jakes said. "Men need to be nurtured on the spiritually, and not just trained for outside occupational duties. Rehabilita tion starts within a man's heart, and if he is not truly sorry for what he has done to people in society, he will continue to commit the same crimes over and over again." According to Jakes, gov ernment is not the answer to the problems men face. Instead, he says, God means for them to come face to face with him. "Men behind bars are watching everything else on television; the least we can do is speak to their inner souls, which will cause a man to change forever," Jakes said.
