Deaths and Funerals Russell's Funeral Home 822 Carl Russell Ave. 722-3459 . ROBERTS Mr. Mac Ray Roberts of 19961 Alexander St. in Perris, Calif., died Sept. 23 at his residence in Perris. He was a native of Winston-Salem, had lived in Perris for the past 33 years and was of the Bap tist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, having served in the Korean conflict. He was a retired employee of Sears Automotive Dfepartmenj. He is survived by two sons, Mac Gary and B^bby Roberts, both of Los Angeles; one brother. Pvfason W. Roberts Jr., of Winston-Salem; three sfeters, Mocille Chisholm, Ruth Campbell, both of \gtfnston-Salem, and Margaret Pitts of Durham, rtr.c .; and a host of other relatives and friends. !. BJ JOHNSON Mr. George Leonard "Dooley" Johnson of & ? 7621 Ridgewood Lane in Chicago. 111., formerly of Winston-Salem, died Get. 4 at his residence in Chicago following a period of illness. He was a native of Washington, D C., was reared in Winston-Salem, and moved to the Chica go area in 1986. He lived in San Francisco prior to moving to Chicago, where he was employed w ith the Miller Brewing Company. He was co-owner of Quality Croutons Inc. in Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Patricia H. John son, of Chicago; one son, Shawn Johnson, of Madison, N.C.; one brother, Juan (Karen) Johnson of Winston-Salem; two aunts, Athalia Frazier and Dorothy Johnson, both of Washington; a niece and nephew. Tumeka and DeQarlo Johnson; his former spouse, Patricia Laseur of Madison, N.C.; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Oct. 9 at the chapel of Russell Funeral Home, with Dr. J. Donald Bal lard presiding. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery. Russell Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements. NORTON Mr. Benjamin A. Norton of Winston-Salem died Sept. 30 in Laguna Beach, Calif. He was born April 12, 1926 in Baltimore, Md., to James M. Norton and Irma Elaine Price. He served in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from Bates High School in Annapolis, Md. He is survived by his wife, Adele Scott-Nor ton; three children, Brian Anthony, Cheryl Veroni ca, Christopher (Tammie) Bernard; three grand children, Denise, Christopher Jr. and Brittany. His marriage to Adele Scott on Feb. 17, 1990, also gave him three children, William Henry Scott, of Fayetteville, Ga., Gerald O. Scott, of Winston Salem, and Ava Marie Scott, of Nashville, Tenn.; Benjamin was the eldest of his siblings, Michael (Barbara) Norton, of Baltimore, Md., Leo (Del phinia) Norton, of Baltimore, Donald Norton of Baltimore, Rachel (Billy) Lewis, of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; Martina (Merv) Lutcher, of Los Angeles, many nieces, nephews; and special devot ed friends, Ray and Maggie Jones of Baltimore. Graveside services were held Oct. 4 at the Sal isbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C., with Father Lawrence Hunt officiating. He was born Sept. 24, 1937, to Mae Belle Johnson and Fred Isaiah Crawford. He attended Atkins High School and was a gradu ate of Bronx College. Mr Johnson was a veteran of the United States Air Force He was also a member of Pneuma Pentecostal Church of Deliver ance Inc. of Thomasville, and later joined First Baptist Church of Bronx. NY. Mr Johnson was employed by City of Winston-Salem for 17 years in the Department of Sanitation. He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted mother, Mae Belle Crawford, of the home, three sisters, Annie Crawford and Owen Roberts, both of the City, and Mary (Richard) Wilkins, of Nyack. NY; five brothers, Willie C. (Louise) Johnson. Jerry (Bennie Mae) Crawford. Thomas F. Craw ford, alFof the city. Perry L (Carolyn) Crawford. of Norfolk Va., and David E. (Virginia) Crawford, of High Point, N.C.; a devoted friend. Sophia Mason of the city; two uncles. James (JB) Johnson and James Cauthen, of the city; one aunt. Thelma Cau then, of the city; one grand aunt. Ella Howard, of the city; and a host of nieces, nephews, other rela tives and friends. Euneral services were held Oct. 7 at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul A. Lowe Jr. officiating. Inhumation followed in Piedmont lylemorial Gardens.
