Nov. 1 and 2 Family Life Council announces male responsibility program training The Family Life Council of Greater Greensboro Inc. announces its annual Wise Guys national training Nov. I and 2 at The Marriott in down town Greensboro. Representa lives from interested agencies throughout the country will attend to learn how to imple ment the program in their own communities. Wise Guys is an adolescent pregnancy prevention program designed for young men between the ages of 10 and 15, which aims at promoting sexu al responsibility in that popula tion. In April, the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy honored the Family Life Council's Wise Guys pro gram in recognition of its lead ership in helping young men reduce their risk of unplanned parenthood and sexually trans mitted diseases. According to data gathered from past Wise Guys partici pants, boys from the program showed significant gains in areas of knowledge such as sexuality and contraception, improvement in communica tion with parents and more positive sex role attitudes. C"it\ officials discuss anthrax on TV 13 City officials discuss how the city is prepared to respond to anthrax in a special program that is being shbwn on TV 13 - the government channel on TimeWarner in Forsyth Coun ty. The program includes Police Chief Linda Davis; Dr. Lew Stringer, the director of the Forsyth County Special Operations Response Team; Dr. Tim Monroe of the Forsyth County Health Department; Fire Chief John Gist; and Mel Sadler, the director of emer gency management. Understanding Islam forum to he shown on TV 13 TV 13 - the government channel on TimeWarner Cable in Forsyth County - will show a tape of the town meeting on Understanding Islam lhat was sponsored Oct. 18 by the Human Relations Commission. The forum drew an overflow crowd of citizens who came to hear a panel discuss various aspects of Islam and to ask questions about Islam in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. Coalition for Drug Abuse Prevention accepting nominations for awards The Coalition for Drug Abuse Prevention is accepting nominations for its Ninth Annual Community Service Awards presentations. Nomi nees may be individual youths/youth groups, and indi vidual adults/community groups who have taken the lead in promoting alcohol and other drug abuse prevention within the past year. The awards will be presented at a reception at Bridger Field House on Oct. 23. Nominations may be made by anyone in the community. "Here was these kids watch ing this black cowboy in action, and I didn't feel that line was valid for the character, so I refused to say it." Young told the magazine. Young continued to act occasionally in the 1980s, including a role in the 1981 miniseries "Palmerstown USA." But he eventually decid ed to stop pursuing his career in acting, said his daughter Saudia Young. "His focus became more spiritual." she said. Young is survived by his wife.
