Religion Mcllwain will address the 51 st Youth/ Young Adult Day at New Bethel SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Rev. Adrian Mcllwain. pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Columbia. S.C., will address the 51st annual Youth/Young Adult Day of New Bethel Baptist Church. His choir and some members of his congregation will accopipany him. Deanna Posey has been chosen as this year's youth/young adult chairperson. Brian Murrill "will serve as acting pastor. This year's theme is "Keeping the Faith Through Turbulent Times." Mcllwain is the youngest of four children of Geraldine Mcllwain and the late Rev. William Mcllwain. He was blessed to have been brought up in a Christian environment and to have participated in numerous church affiliations and organizations. He was affectionately called "Little Rev" growing up as he fol lowed his father's ministry <like his shadow. At age 17, the tragic death of his father put him through a period of grief that shook the essence of his being. The con solation shown by family members and friends along with the spiritual adoption by Rev. D r . Charles B. Jack s o n a w a k - ened a call toward God's will foRlis life. Several months later, he graduated from Irma High School and was awarded a scholarship to attend North Greenville Col lege, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in the ology in December 1998. While in college, he spoke at chapel services, worked with Christian Camp Crusades and organized a "testimonial min istry" for students dealing with grief and bereavement. He is now working on a master's of divinity degree in Christian studies at Gordon Conwell Theological Semi nary in Charlotte. In addition to pastoring, Mcllwain is a personal banker for Bank of America. More important, he has an earnest passion for the Lord and hopes to be a humble min ister for God and be a posi tive asset to his commu nity. At New Bethel, she is president of the Youth Choir, a member of the youth Sunday school class and a member of the junior mission a r y depart ment. Brian Murrill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benny Murrill. He is a junior al North Forsyth High School At New Bethel, he is a mem ber of the Youth Council, where he is an active partici pant on Youth Sundays and a member of the Young Adult Ushers. Youths and young adults will direct all activities on Youth/Young Adult Day. beginning with the Sunday school hour. They will teach the classes, review the lesson and conduct morning devo tion. King, a highly requested evangelist and nephew of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. will preach in a revival at Solid Rock Missionary Bap tist Church March 11 -15 at 7:30 nightly. Vernon C. King was born Sept. 6. 1960, in Atlanta. Ga. He is the youngest child born to Naomi B. King and the late Rev. A.D. Williams King Sr. From an early age, Vernon C. King was influenced by the example of ministry of his late father, his late grandfather (Daddy King) and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Vernon C. King received a bachelor of arts degree in reli gion in 1983 from More house College in Atlanta. N.C., from June 1997 to December 2000. He is a highly requested speaker and evangelist through out the United States.
