: Mt. Sinai Full Gospel Deliverance Center holds youth summit SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Members of the youth department of Mt. Sinai Full Gospel Deliverance Center - 2721 Manchester Street, where Pastor Yvonne H. Hines is senior presbyter - went to a summit to proclaim that they are '"shackle free." The summit, under the direction of Youth Minister Tamarian Mclntyre. convened July 12-14 with power-packed services on the thematic . emphasis Shackle Free from . Galatiafls 5:1. Rebekah L. Hines presided over the Friday night service and was assisted by youths (Jessica Lowery read Scrip ' ture, Cedarius Orr gave the invocation; and Ian Julian gave the welcome). The Spar tan Spirituals from Mt. Tabor High School and the St. John United Holy Church Youth Choir sang, and the Sinai Steppers showed "their excit ing footwork. Youthful and dynamic Elder Devin Pickett of St. John United Holy Church in Burgaw, N.C., delivered the sermon. Pickett told the youths that "none can put you into bondage except that you allow them. If you trust in God, your shackles are released and you are free, but your are not free to do as you please. You must submit to God and those in authority over you." Saturday was an all-day outreach for the youths, and they later communed at a pic nic. Sunday morning, Tiffany Pankey stated the thematic emphasis for the youth sum mit. The summit was blessed with the voices of the Mt. Sinai Youth Choir and the straightforward teaching of Hal Hiatt, the Central Area representative of the Fellow ship of Christian Athletes. Hiatt spoke from Matthew 6:19-24 and shared these prin ciples: the things of the world are temporary and those of God are eternal; if you are in darkness, the only escape is through Christ; your treasure is where your heart is, and you cannot serve God and the world system. After the morning service, Hiatt entertained questions from the youths involved or thinking of becoming involved in athletics. The summit concluded with the Sunday evening serv ice. Jason L. Hines presided. with youth support from Thomas Poole, who read Scripture; LaTonya Pankey, who gave the invocation; and Aaron Hughes, who gave the welcome. The Youth Dance Troupe did a liturgical dance, declaring war on the devil. Mt. Sinai was blessed with the vocal ministry' of r songstress Stephanie White, which led to the climax of the evening - the message of Elder Charles Johnson from The River, of Raleigh. John son enthusiastically preached that being shackle-free is being free from other people's opinions. He referred to Nehemiah 2:20; 1:2-3. He also said that what God is doing in your life is between you and God. After the message, Pastor Yvonne H. Hines gave remarks and the benediction to close the youth summit. The youths left the service knowing that in His power they can be shackle-free. Elder Devin Pickett and Mrs. Pickett of St. John United Holy Church in Burgaw, N.C. Pastor Bishop www. wschronicle. com Church supplies more than food SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Not everyone has the luxury of waking up in the morning, deciding what to eat or even w hen to eat it. There are human beings that wake up in the morning with no idea where their next meal is coming from, but Goler Memori al AME Zion Church has decided to stand in the gap for those pub lic entities that do not cater to the homeless and needy. The King's Table is a break fast served every Saturday at 7 a.m. to homeless and hungry peo ple in Winston-Salem. The vision was given to Pastor Seth O. Lartey after Goler's soup kitchen ended about a year ago. As always, though, when God speaks, people and things begin to move. In this case, people are moving to feed men. women, and children that might not otherwise have a meal. The King's Table provides a free, hot breakfast to those who desire to come to the comer of Seventh Street and Patterson Avenue. The menu usually includes eggs, bacon, fish, dough nuts. hash browns, coffee, tea. juice, or any food that cook Carl Black is blessed with to prepare a healthful meal. Volunteers help serve the meal that ensures there will be a full stomach by the time the guest leaves the basement of r Goler Memorial. Every attempt possible is made to try to keep in touch with the persons that do come to the breakfast so that other accommodations can be made for them. Some are in need of clothes, among other necessities. Matthew 4:4 says, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Not only do the homeless and hungry have the opportunity to fill up with nutri ents. but they are replenished with God's word before every meal. This fact distinguishes Goler's King's Table from other soup kitchens and shelters. Oftentimes, those who attend, welcome the spiritual uplifting just as they wel come the good food. Thus far. about 50 people have been mak ing their way to hear ministers speak the Gospel, which gives strength to continue the path that God has planned for each of us in life. Those being fed do not just come eat and listen; many of them offer to help clean tables, empty trash and clean the floor. One gentleman said he wel comed the opportunity to fellow ship with others. He emphatically expressed that he enjoyed talking to someone that would listen. The conversation reinforces that all people are equal and deserve a chance to have the best in life. The King's Table provides a place where the needy can come and feel good about themselves and be encouraged to give lite and God another try. Ultimately, it is an opportuni ty for those who are a little more fortunate to help other people going through storms in their lives feel like kings.
