Religion Spiritual Dance Camp 2002 participants 9 I ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ I Spiritual dancers to hold finale SPECIAL TO THF.CHRONICl F There is a spiritual awakening coming to Winston-Salem. No, it is not T.D. Jakes, Juanita Bynum, or Joyce Meyers. It is the Association of Rhythmic Talent's Spiritu al Dance Camp featuring local dance ministries from the area. On July 22, the A.R.T. Dance Company began a Spiritual Dance Camp for ages 12-18 on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. The camp will con clude on Aug. 3 with a grand finale dance concert at the Kenneth R. Williams Auditorium at 6 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. The spiritual Dance Camp is focusing on restoring the dance in the church through redefining the purpose of the body as it relates to salvation. Angela and Kent Beatty, the director and artistic director of the A.R.T. Dance Company and also the facilitators of the camp, began with a spiri tual dance workshop in late March, now followed by Spiritual Dance Camp. See Dancers on B 7 Rev. Norman E. Kerry Jr. will speak at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist SPECIAL TO THE CHKON1CLE St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church's deaconess es' program will be held Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. The speaker will be Rev. Norman E. Kerry Jr., pastor of Chappell Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte. The public Hs invited. Kerry is a third-genera tion preacher and theologian. He has degrees and training from these schools: Johnson C. Smith University (B.A. in sociology); Hood Theologi cal Seminary (M.Div.); Bab cock School of Business, Wake Forest University (cer tificate in church manage ment); and Bishop College in Dallas, Texas. He is pur suing a doctor of ministry degree from United Theolog ical Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He is the former pastor of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Lake Lure, where he served for 2 1/2 years. While in Lake Lure, he served as dean of Christian education for the Gold Hill Missionary Association. He has been pastor of Chappell Memorial for 12 years. He is the moderator of Mecklenburg General Bap tist Association. He also served as the organization's first vice and second vice moderator. He has been a familiar voice on radio station WSPG-AM in Charlotte for nine years and continues to be actively involved in the community. He served as site coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Con ference/W.O.M.E.N. Nation al AIDS Program for three years. He was responsible for AIDS education in the African-American communi ty He is a member of Thomasboro/Hoskins Com munity Task Force, Central House, the Evangelism Board of the General Baptist State Convention and vari ous other organizations. He is married to Barbara Phette Kerry, and they have a daughter. McKenzie Ariana. Kimberly Park Holiness celebrates Pastor/Elder Robert Edmond's seventh anniversary M'K I ALTO THE CHRONICLE Elder Robert Edmond Jr. of Kimberly Park Holiness Church will celebrate his sev enth pastoral anniversary Aug. 3, 4, 7 and 8. The anniversary celebra tion will begin with an anniversary appreciation ban quet Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. at Stephen Missionary Baptist Church Reception Center. Rev. Joseph Samuels, pastor of St. Stephen, will be the guest speaker for the banquet. Aug. 4 at 11 a.m? Minis ter/Mother Bettye Hash, asso ciate of Kimberly Park, will deliver the message. At 4 p.m. Elder Edmond Jr. Rev. James Linville a n . d P i n e y Grove Baptist Church congre g a t i o n will be guests. Overseer Eugene Kirby and Bethlehem Holiness Church will continue the cel ebration Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The anniversary celebra tion will conclude with Bish op James Ijames and Mt. Zion Holiness Church Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Edmond began as interim pastor of Kimberly Park in 1994 and was officially installed pastor in 1995. Edmond founded the Labor ers for Harvest Outreach Pro ject in 1997. The Kimberly Park community is undergo ing major renovation. He plans to revive Laborers for Harvest at the conclusion of the renovations. He also introduced Build ing for Kingdom Business Project in 1997. This project is God's vision for him to direct the ministry to build a new sanctuary. Edmond quotes Proverbs 29:18: "Where this is no vision, the people perish." Edmond also said, "It has taken time to prepare the con gregation for the vision and help everyone realize we are responsible for God's sanctu ary. As I enter my eighth year at Kimberly Park. I believe it is the year of new beginning for the ministry. God is adding to the church. Mem bers are excited and applying themselves-diligently to the task God has set before us." Many fund-raising events have and are in place as preparation for Building for Kingdom Business. Edmond foresees that Kimberly Park Church will make a difference in the Kim berly Park community as the community renovations are completed and the population grows. He intends for Kim berly Park and its members to be true stewards for Christ! ? Edmond was previously affiliated with St. Peter's World Outreach Center and fater God directed him to Bethlehem Holiness Church. He was a deacon at Bethle hem and later preached his initial sermon in 1987. Edmond learned much of his biblical teaching at St. Peter's Church. He attended Winston Salem State University. He is married to Carolyn O'Neal Edmond. a graduate of High Point University. Mrs. Edmond serves on Kim berly Park's Trustee Board. United Voices Choir, and adviser for YES (Youth Ener gized to Serve). She also produces the Kimberly Park Ministry Pro gram that airs on CAT-TV6 at 7 p.m. Sundays.
