drama, which re-creates and

Vinci's painting "The Last

Bethlehem Baptist Church plans
installation ceremony for pastor

Bethlehem Missionary
Baptist Church will install
its third pastor on April 20
at 4 p.m.
Bethlehem was organ
ized March 20, 1920. under
the leadership of the late
Rev. O.S. Hamm, who
served until his death in
1947. After Hamm's death,
the congregation called
Rev. E.L. Clark Sr. who
served as pastor from 1947
uivtil his death in August
2000.
After almost three years
of being without a shep
herd, the officials and mem
bership prayed and searched
for a pastor. They were
directed by the Holy Spirit
to select Rev. Dwight Hash
Sr., a product of St. Stephen
Baptist Church here in the
city. Hash comes to Bethle
hem after having pastored
Rising Star Baptist Church
for the last 15 years.
The Bethlehem family
welcomes Hash and his
family with open hearts and
arms.

Stephen Baptist Church will
deliver the installation ser
mon. and the Guilford Edu
cational Missionary Baptist
Association will give all
charges. Charles Fletcher,
chairman of the board of

Church will observe Family Day

On April 20 Pastor Robert
L. McGowens Sr. and Galilee
Missionary Baptist Church
family will observe Family
Day. A joint worship service
will be held at 9 a.m. with
Pastor McGowens bringing
the message. The church
school will begin at 8 a.m.
Program participants for
this service will be families
instead of one individual.
Families will also provide
music for the worship service.
A plaque will be given to the
Family of the Year. The
plaque was awarded to the
Melton family in 2002, with
31 family members in atten
dance.
Family Day is a kickoff to
a,month of activities intended
to strengthen biological and
spiritual families. These activ
ities will culminate with a
family conference scheduled
for May 30-31. The theme is
"Rediscovering Family."
The public is invited to
attend this service, and all
family members are encour
aged to come and share in the
worship service.

Freedom Baptist will hold revival
SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE
Freedom Baptist Church
will hold its spring revival
April 21-25. The guest
preacher will be Rev. Dennis
Bishop.
He is a native of Winston
Salem. born Dec. 29. 1954, to
the late Hazel Bishop and the
late Wallace Love. He gradu
ated from R.J. Reynolds High
School in 1974 and attended
Piedmont Bible College.
Bishop is the father of
four children, grandfather of
two and a "papa" to many
children. He accepted the call
to preach at the age of 13 and
Rev. Dennis Bishop
has evangelized throughout
the East Coast.
He was assistant pastor of
Waughtown Baptist Church
from 1975 through 1980
under Pastor E.L. Grant. He
was pastor at New Bethel
Baptist Church in Mocksville
from 1980-83.
He was called to pastor
Waughtown Baptist Church
in March 1983 when the late
Pastor E.L. Grant retired.
Under Bishop's leadership,
the church has experienced
tremendous spiritual growth
and was led to change its
name to First Waughtown
Baptist Church.
Love, Hope & Charity Missionary
Circle will celebrate anniversary

motto adopted by a group of
young women about 23 years
ago. and they were committed
lo helping their church and
community. The group was
named the Love. Hope &
Charity Missionary Circle of
New Jerusalem Missionary
Baptist Church. On Easter
Sunday. April 20. at 4 p.m. the
group invites all to come cele
brate its 23rd anniversary.
Bishop Joseph Lowery and St.
Matthew Apostolic Church
will render services. Rev. S.J.
Cornelius is host pastor.
While none of the original
members is left in the group,
the spirit of helping others has
not faded in the least. Serving
is what they do best. Through
the years they have been
involved in many religious
and civic activities.

their 56th annual Men's Day
Observance on April 20 at the
11 a.m. worship service. The
speaker for this occasion will
be the Rev. Ronald Eugene
Speas, associate minister of
St. Stephen Missionary Bap
tist Church.
Speas is a native of
iooac

Forsyth
Senior
High
School.
He has
served as
u North Rev. Spaas
Carolina
Highway Patrolman for the
past 15 years.
He answered the call to
the ministry in March 1992
and preached his trial sermon
at Center Grove AME Zion
Church, where he grew up.
While in the AME Zion
Church, he received his exal
ter's license and local
preacher's license.
Later, Speas and his fami
ly moved to (he Baptist
Church, and he was licensed
to preach the Gospel in 1993.
He evangeli/fd from church
to church until he was called
to pastor Sandy Creek Mis
sionary Baptist Church in
Traphill, N.C.. from 1994
1998. Upon moving back to
Forsyth County, he and his
family joined St. Stephen
Missionary Baptist Church,
under the leadership of Rev.
J R. Samuels.
In January 2000. Pleasant
Hill Missionary Baptist
Church in North Wilkesboro
voted him in as pastor, and
he served for 18 months.
He is married to Gloria F.
Speas. and they have two
children.
