Oct. 24 and 26 Anniversary Friendship Baptist Church will observe its 89th church anniversary in a two day celebration on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The focus of the celebration will be the homecoming of family and friends at all services. An important aspect of the anniversary is the planning of a memorial walkway on the site of the former church building. This walkway will serve as a permanent reminder of thanksgiving for the hard work of founding and present members. Oct. 25 Bake and Yard Sale Love Festival The Missionary Society and Usher Board of New Birth Worship Center in East Bend will sponsor a Bake and Yard Sale Love Festival honoring Tabitha Dobson on Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 pm. She is a single mother who is undergoing dialysis for a kidney transplant. All pro ceeds will go toward her medical expenses. Oct. 26 Forsyth County Missionary Union The Forsyth County Mis sionary Union will meet Oct. 26 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 916 E. 12th Street, at 3 p.m. The business session will include the annual reports. The Galilee Missionary Bap tist Church singles ministry, under the leadership of dynamic Pastor Robert E. Lee McGowens Sr., celebrated its first singles conference on Oct. 4. Inspirational Sylvia B. Gwyn presided. The conference theme was "The Total Person." Galilee's Singles Praise Team opened with a melody of songs directed by Mary Stevenson. This also included a solo, "Safe in His Arms" by Evelyn Wilson. Her beautiful voice set the tone for a Spirit-filled day. Members Patricia Stover and C.J. Hart completed the Praise Team. The highly esteemed Rev. Dr. Sir Walter L. Mack Jr.. a mighty man of God and vision ary of Union Baptist Church, was the keynote speaker. His min Ivan Robinson/ left, conducts "The Strong, Healthy Temple" workshop. istries center on dynamic wor ship, evangelism, community involvement and outreach. His powerful sermon, "God Can Rip the Script" and scriptural refer ence (Acts 26:26) inspired all attendees. During his sermon, he mentioned white slave masters messing up when they let the slaves go down by the river. "That's all the time they needed to get before the King. The King validates yog. You don't have to depend on some man or woman to make you somebody. You may not have someone on your arm on the outside, but if you got Jesus on the inside, the Lord will bless you." Mack received a standing ovation. All singles departed with a feeling of serenity, knowing that "God Can Rip the Script." The conference included four workshops. The Spirit-filled Rev. Jo Ann Belfield conducted "Single Parenting.' As a single parent, full-time student and a career woman. Belfield said that she had faced many challenges, but not any that God did not see her through and deliver her out of. She was an inspiration to all single parents. Ivan Robinson. R.N.. B.S.N., conducted "The Strong, Healthy Temple." He is a co-founder of RHC & Allied Health Associate & Allied Nurses.Com, a team of physicians who provide a full range of health-care services and a nurse staffing company. Each attendee left the session viewing his or her body as a temple and with a wealth of information on how to take better care of that temple. Rev. Conita Hunt and Minis ter Herbert Faison shared in lead ing the "Single Again" work shop. Rev. "Sister CO," as Hunt is often aalled. is an outstanding woman servant of God. She truly believes in being obedient to the Holy Spirit and doesn't mind Sec Galilee on B6 Rev. Conita Hunt conducts the "Single Again" workshop. Austin will preach initial sermon SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Junior Deacon Brandon Mitchell Austin will preach his initial sermon Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. The Youth Choir, Young Adult Ensemble and GMBC Youth Inspiration Choir will render the music. Austin is an active member of Galilee. He is a percussion ist for the Youth Inspirational Mass Choir and assists as needed with other choirs in the church. He is a member of the Young Adult Ensemble and the Young Adult Ushers Ministry. He gave his life to Christ on June 15, 2000, during the spring revival with Pastor Ron nie Williams. As a young man he fully understands the seri ousness and the importance of ? his walk with the Lord and believes that God called him into the ministry. He desires to become a youth minister. He said: "I want to help kids the way 1 have been helped. I know that young peo ple may fall, but I also know that we can get up." He gives credit to Pastor Robert McGowens, Minister Waymon Monroe Jr.. Minister Roy Dennis, Minister Beverly Alexander and Deacon John Tyson for their love, help, and inspiration in his spiritual jour ney. Austin is the son of Alfred and Crystal Crump and Robert and Nancy Austin. He has one brother. Clayton Reynolds; two stepbrothers. Denard Crump and Jamal Blackwell: add a stepsister. Shafae Black well. Austin is a 2003 graduate of East Forsyth High School. During his tenure at East Forsyth he played both varsity and junior varsity football. He was captain of the football team during his senior year. He was a senior dean, which allowed him to make decisions that affected his entire senior class. He also worked in the school pffice during his senior year. He consistently made the dean's list, maintaining a 3.0 to a 3.5 grade point average. Dur ing the summer of 2003. he served as a camp counselor at First Assembly Christian Church. He is currently a stu dent at N.C. A&T State Uni versity. majoring in computer technology.
