The Choristers have been a distinctive musi cal group of the Triad for nearly 50 years. The group was organized in 1957. Dr. Permilla Flack Dunston w as the first cjirector The group has had the pleasure of gifted leadership throughout the decades. Dr. bred Tanner is the current director. The Choristers represent a diversity of voca tions and ecumenical affiliations. Their music stretches a wide spectrum of cultural, religious, and ethnic expressions. To be sure, they per form music for all seasons. It is again the season for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Concert. The performance is always stirring as the journey toward freedom is recounted, hope *for reconciliation is renewed, and spirits arc rallied to stay the course for the Promised Land. Missionaries visit care centers SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Members of the Eli /an Williams * Missionary Society of Union Bethel AME Church brought smiles, songs and a token of love to the residents and family members of Springwood Care Center of Forsyth and Winston Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare^ Center. These nlissionaries brought along a youth from the young peo ple's department of the church and a friend to help them spread the joyful feeling of the holidays. Residents laughed, smiled and sang holiday songs. The holiday col ors and Santa caps worn by. many helped to make the celebration very festive. Jingling of the bells brought by Jannie Funderburk added the spe cial touch to the songs, especially "Jingle Bells," which Justin Crockett and Jannie Williams seemed to have had a knack for. Five-year old Jalen Bartlett, a visitor at Springwood Care Center, found a lot of fun in wearing Sharon Epps' Santa's cap as he joined the missionaries in singing songs. Before leaving each care center, the missionaries distributed to every one a candy cane attached to a red or green card with the story of the candy cane printed on it.
