Omegas to
crown queen
at Mardi Gras
SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE
To raise scholarship dollars to help send young people to
college and funds to support a summer camp for boys, the Psi
Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is planning an
out-of-this-world "Mardi Gras Costume Extravaganza" for Feb.
2, 2008, in the Education Building of the Dixie Classic Fair
from 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
The event will feature a costume extravaganza with prizes
awarded for best male, best female, and best couple costumes.
Music will be provided by 102 Jamz' own DJ. Polo.
The highlight of the evening will be the crowning of the
Mardi Gras Queen. Four outstanding women are vying for the
coveted queen's crown.
Each of the four queen contestants represents a committee
named for the fraternity's four cardinal principles - manhood,
scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. The contestants and their
committees are competing to determine which group can raise
the most money.
The group that does so will have its contestant named queen.
The four contestants are: Cassandra "Sandi" Powers, repre
senting the Manhood team; Kristina Theodore, representing the
Uplift team; Shanika Gray, representing the Scholarship team;
and Elise Rodney, representing the Perseverance team.
Tickets for the event are available now and may be pur
chased from any Psi Phi chapter member. Tickets are $15 in
advance and $20 at the door.
If you want to support one of the teams please forward your
donation to Psi Phi Chapter, Attn. Team Name, P.O. Box 21271,
Winston Salem, NC 27120.
For more information about this event, contact Charlie
Bethea, Mardi Gras Committee chair, at 336-896-8638.
The death of a loved one is enough
of a burden without It becoming a
financial one, too.
