Omegas to crown queen at Mardi Gras SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE To raise scholarship dollars to help send young people to college and funds to support a summer camp for boys, the Psi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is planning an out-of-this-world "Mardi Gras Costume Extravaganza" for Feb. 2, 2008, in the Education Building of the Dixie Classic Fair from 9 p.m. - 2 a.m. The event will feature a costume extravaganza with prizes awarded for best male, best female, and best couple costumes. Music will be provided by 102 Jamz' own DJ. Polo. The highlight of the evening will be the crowning of the Mardi Gras Queen. Four outstanding women are vying for the coveted queen's crown. Each of the four queen contestants represents a committee named for the fraternity's four cardinal principles - manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. The contestants and their committees are competing to determine which group can raise the most money. The group that does so will have its contestant named queen. The four contestants are: Cassandra "Sandi" Powers, repre senting the Manhood team; Kristina Theodore, representing the Uplift team; Shanika Gray, representing the Scholarship team; and Elise Rodney, representing the Perseverance team. Tickets for the event are available now and may be pur chased from any Psi Phi chapter member. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
