Christmas celebration held for 'Bro Bro' Lewis SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Edward Ashley "Bro Bro" Lewis' annual Christmas cele bration was held Dec. 17 in his mother's clubhouse locat ed behind her house from 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. The greeting hostesses were his mother, Jeannette /T. Lewis, his aunts Flonnie T< Anderson, Lena T. Crowder and his uncle Rudy Anderson. Sr. The red, white and green balloon decorations were done by Soror Dolores Phillips. Bro Bro received approximately. 50' gifts from the 45 generous family mem bers and friends who attend ed. The guests registered and greeted each other and were taken on a tour of the new house addition and Christmas decorations. Then it was game time. Bro Bro's mother had each guest to find other people born under their Zodiac sign. After the Zodiac signs were paired together in their group, each group had to tell their personality trait. Most of the groups were very close to what their horoscope said about them. After the game, it was time to eat the delicious food, catered by Connie's Catering Service. Bro Bro's Chaplin, Willis Herman blessed the food. Others from Bro Bro's staff at Murdoch Center who attended were. Cornelius and Desmond were first time attendees. Gift hostesses who opened, recorded and packed Bro Bro's gifts were aunt Flonnie T. Anderson, Soror ' Velma Friende and Soror Susie Nance.. The clean up crew consisted of Bro Bro's cousins Rayonette Crowder, Mica Anderson, Dierdra Anderson* and family friends Carman Searcy and Marjorie Plowden. Guests enjoyed the food so very much that many of them fixed plates to go as they were leaving. Great fun, fellowship and eating at Bro Bro's Christmas party celebration was shared "by all present. Keep Winston-Salem ^Beautiful keeps up its winning streak Program again takes President's Circle Award SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE - Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful was honored with a President's Circle Award from Keep America Beautiful for the ? fifth-year in a row dunng its 54th annual national conference, heteeartrcr this month in Washington, D.C. ? : The President's Circle Award recognizes exemplary effort by affiliates of Keep America Beautiful to reduce litter, mini mize waste, and beautify and improve their local communities. Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful received the award for meeting Keep America Beautiful's standards of excellence by conducting an annual Litter Index, calculating the cost/benefit ratio of its* programs, and encouraging volunteers to take greater responsibility for their community environment. In addition, award recipients must conduct activities in Keep America Beautiful's three core foci^s areas of litter prevention, waste reduction, and beautification/community improvement, said G. Raymond Empson, the president of Keep America Beautiful. - "One of our national organization's most effective tools is the grassroots network of affiliate organizations, which have an impact on more than 165 million Americans each year," Empson said. Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful was organized in 1979 and today marshals thousands of volunteers annually for such events as the Great Winston-Salem Clean-Up. Big Sweep and Community Roots Day. In addition, Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful organizes the Clean and Green program in local schools and oversees the Adopt-a-Street, Adopt-a-Stream and Adopt-a-Flower Bed prograps.
