Zaria Smith is already acting and modeling. A Star is Born SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE ^ Zaria Smith, an eight-year old third grader at Julian Gibson Elementary, will be appearing in an . upcoming production, "Enchanted Lands," at the Little Theatre on Coliseum Dr. on May 15 and 16 at 7 pjn. Zaria is the daughter of Gregory and Cindy Pompey Smith.. Both of whom work in the community. Her mother is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University. Zaria attended pre-k at Kimberly Park Elementary where she told her teachers that she was going to be on television one day. "I love to perform on stage and in front of the camera. I also love to swim, skate, and dance. I have attended dance classes for three years at Positive Image and Performing Arts, (PIPA). directed by Courtney Taylor," she said. "I am a participant of the ACT pro gram at The Little Theatre and I am happy to be a member of the cast for the upcoming show Enchanted Lands." Zaria has participated in tal ent showcases with the American Talent Showcase/Model Jam America ATS/MJA, with Donna and Terry Ehrlic, of Z-l Models and Talent for five years. She saw her dreams of being on tele vision become a reality. "I worked as an extra on the set of an upcoming movie called, "Patriotville." I am one of the children in the swimming pool scene!" she exclaimed excitedly. "My mom and I went out to Hollywood, California in January, with an invitation from a management agency. They had seen me perform during the showcases and wanted to repre sent and present me to various agents in Los Angeles, and New York City." Zaria's management agency arranged for her and her mom to take a trip to New York recently . to audition for a Nickelodeon movie and television shows. She also had an opportunity to partic ipate in another talent showcase, where she was signed to work with Funny Face Today Agency, in ?New York. "I am very excited about the many opportunities that I have been blessed with in the past and I look forward to the many that are on the way. Black Belt Kahlil Javon Kirkland. Kahlil Kirkland earns his Black Belt SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Eight-year old Kahlil Javon Kirkland.began Tiger Kim's Tae Kwon Do classes at the age of five, and worked his way through various belts to achieve the Black Belt on December 8, 2007. He received his belt in a Black Belt Ceremony held at Summit School on April 26. Q Kahlil is in the third grade at Old Town Global Academy, where he is an honor student in Mrs. Powers' class. He is also a Cub/Bear Scout with Den/Pack #926, at Maple Springs Baptist Church. He is a member of Harry D. Hayes Council #122 Knights of Pythagoras, PHA (Youth Mason) and plays soccer with Fulton Family YMCA. He is a memfcer of Union Baptist Church, where the Rev. Sr. Walter Lee Mack, Jr. is the pastor. His parents are Tiffany A. ^Kirkland and John Vargas. His maternal grandparents are Bobbie and Catherine Kirkland; and the paternal grandparents are William and Julia V. Webster. 1 Wedded bliss for Tina Redd and Columbus Hill SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE ' Tina Redd and Columbus Hill were married on April 19 in a beautiful ceremony at New Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Decatar. Ga. The Rev. Dexter O. Rowland officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father, William Redd, Sr. Her parents are William and Annie Redd, of Winston-Salem. Tina graduated from Parkland Sr. High School and attended Dekalb Technical College, where she obtained a'-certificate in nursing. She is employed by Georgia Perimeter College in Clarkston, Ga. The happy groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hill, of Decatur. Columbus attended J. P. Carr Sr. High School in Conyers, Ga. He served in the United States Army, and is presently employed at Fenner Dunlops Belting Company. _ ' The Maid of Honor was Takeisha Redd, the bride's daughter, of Camer, N.C. The Matron of Honor was Mrs. Tara Hill, of Atlanta, Ga. Bridesmaids were Asia Hill, and Terri Hill, both of Atlanta; and Jackie Kendricks, of Stone Mountain, Ga. The BesfcMan was the groom's son, Vince.Hill, of Atlanta. Groomsmen were Milton Hill, and Claxton Hill, both from . Decatur; son of the bride.
