102-Jamz' B-Daht wilds out for convo 102-Jamz radio personality B-Daht (Brian McLaughlin) is probably my favorite person to listen to on the radio these days. You simply never know what he's going to bring a show. He might be funny, crazy, educational, cool or wild. Sometimes he finds a way to be many of those things at the same time. I know he's not an athlete, coach or anything like that. But B-Daht knows sports. Believe that. That's why I like interviewing people Outside of sports sometimes. They seem to give more passionate answers when it comes to sports. I mean, we're all fans. And, B-Daht is no different. So I thought it would be cool to talk a little sports with Dahttie this week. I also want ed to get his thoughts on a number of topics like Super Jamz, Chris Paul, Josh Howard, the NBA Draft, Mariah Carey, and some other topics that came to mind. B-Daht is always cool to talk with, and be around. No doubt. Take a look at some of the things he talked about this week with me. 1 definitely enjoyed this one. 1 think you all will too. Anthony: What's good, B Dizzle? B-Daht: Nothing much, man. Coolin.' Just leaving the Goodwill. Anthony: (Both laugh.) Were you dropping some nice things off? B-Daht: Nah, man. I'm shopping dude. Stop playing. I'm shopping. (Both laugh.) My mom actually works at the Goodwill on the white side of town. I went through to sep her. They had a nice computer desk. I've had my computer on the night stand for the last cou ple of months. So, I just went ahead and bought that thang. Anthony: (Laughs.) I got to ask you if you're finally over Mariah Carey marrying Nick Cannon? B-Daht: I guess I'm over it. There's no point in hating. I just envy his position extreme ly. I don't even like Mariah Carey like that. I wouldn't even holla at Mariah Carey if I was famous. I don't even think she's dope. Just the fact that Nick Cannon bagged her is just -crazy. Lik?, Jermaine Dupree and Janet Jackson. It's like I had a shot, man. Anthony: No doubt. How much did you enjoy Super Jamz this year? B-Daht: This year was extremely fun. This was my third one. This is my fourth with the company. I remember being an intern for my first one. We were sitting so far up on the nose bleed seats. I told all my folks that I was with that I swear on everything I love 1 will be on that stage next year. 1 did. I'm still new. But I'm more seasoned. We were on stage rocking. We had to do a 20 minute set because we were waiting on the Dream to get there. Having 20,000 people rocking for 20 minutes was so much fun. Then, 36 (Mafia) came. That's one of my favorite groups. I got to kick it with them backstage and inter view them. We gave the people what they wanted. T? people wanted to see Plies. The peo ple wanted to see Shawty Lo. it was a beautiful experience. Anthony: No doubt. How's this year been going for you? B-Daht: It's been good. My son turns two, August sec ond. That's great. I was also on Mauri Povich. I don't know if you saw that. I was on there for a secret crush episode. That was crazy. A lot of people still ask me if that was serious. Just look at the tape. Do you nor mally see Daht walk around with his pants up to his nipple. (Both laugh.) You don't see that Anthony: I see that you're "Pranks" DVD is starting Xo pick up. Where did you get the idea for that? Were you a Jerky Boys fan or something? B-Daht: Nah, man. I am not even a fan of the Jerky Boys. That came out of the blue. That was like Punked. I do the same thing, except I do it on the phone. My idea was to just do celebrities, and them to say they just got pranked. My first volume was extremely low budget. I might 've moved eight copies. (Both laugh.) It was crazy. This time I went and hollered at my folk, Ricky Ruckus. He's a fool with Photoshop. He designed them for me. I'm selling them' for $5. It's not about making money. I just want to get a lot of them out there. Anthony: Real quick. Shout out to Ricky Ruckus. B-Daht: No doubt. Did you hear about the North Carolina Music Awards? Anthony: Oh yeah. My man was voted as the Artist of the Year. B-Daht: Yes. I'm not even from Winston. I was born in St. Louis. I graduated in Greensboro. But I rep the Tre 4 because they embrace B Daht. But I think of Ricky Ruckus when I think of Tre-4 or Winston-Salem. He goes so hard. It's a wonder he hasn't blown. It's a wonder he's still a local talent. But we're defi nitely in the studio. As a matter of fact, I have to holler at him ? Photo courtesy of B-Daht 102 Jamz' B-Daht entertains with his humor and knowledge. tomorrow because we have a banger that's going on the myspace page real soon. We're going to link it to Youtube and get a million hits. I'm telling you first, Ant. We're going to have a mil lion hits on Youtube for the so. But I don't want put all my eggs in the U.S. basket, because I remember being so pumped four years ago, think ing the boys were going to do it. Then, they went over there and let me down. But they're more mature. They've got (Jne-on-Une with \nthonx llill next track. We have one that is. about to be like Barry Bonds, out the park. This is exclusive. We're about to have a track on Youtube that's going to get one million hits in a month. On everything, ^promise. It's going to be that big. Anthony: Wow. That's cool. Let's talk a little sports. My man CP (Chris Paul) made the Olympic team. Are they going to bring home the gold this year? B-Daht: I'm really hoping Kobe Bryant now. Maybe win ning the gold will take away from that Shaq dft Anthony: (Smiles) TtMg was crazy. I can't believe Shaq is still salty at Kobe. B-Daht: I can't believe Shaq is still holding on like that. Like, move on Shaq. Grow up. Stop playing. He's hurting himself more than he's hurting Kobe. He's really the lame in this regard. Anthony: No doubt. Let me ask you about this. New Orleans did absolutely nothing in the NBA draft. CP is proba bly still going to sign a big contract soon. Would you think about opting out if you were Chris, or would you sim ply sign- for the money? B-Daht: That's a good question. I hadn't even given any thought to it until you said that. The way this league flip flops you really need to try to get more help every year. And, what happens if Tyson Chandler goes down? They need to get Chris more help. But he should go ahead and take the bread. He deserves that. He is New Orleans. Him and Lil Wayne. Drew Brees and Reggie Bush aren't selling any jerseys. Anthony: (Laughs.) Wasn't this the worst NBA draft in history? B-Daht: It depends on which team you like. I'm pret ty sure Portland would say the '83 draft was the worst in his tory. ' Anthony: OK. Can you name the first five picks? B-Daht: I can name the first three because they beat them in our head all week. But it gets fuzzy after that. I'm confused with what Mike (Michael Jordan) is doing with the Bobcats. Why did Mike get Augustine, a guy from France and another white guy? What are they trying to do? That's absurd. Anthony: What did you think about the BET awards? B-Daht: It was bootleg, and poorly produced. I was excited to see Alicia Keys and that outfit. She killed it. And, she brought out SWV, En Vogue and TLC. I also enjoyed laughing at Rick Ross and his belly hanging out. I got crunk with the energy that Ludacris brought out. I 'bout passed out. A1 Green didn't know if he wanted to be gospel or gangsta. (Both laugh.) Anthony: Let's talk about Winston-Salem State. Is coach Blount on the hot seat? B-Daht: (Pause.) I thought he should' ve been on the hot seat last year. By them not putting him on the hot seat last year, you have to ride him out now I think it would be erratic to put him on the hot seat after giving him a contract extension. It's a lot on the coaches shoulders, but I really think they're going to step up this year. Anthony: All right. Let's finish with free association. Uh, 102 Jamz B-Daht: Hottest station on the planet. 1 honestly mean that. If we were in New York it would be bananas. Everybody on our roster is talented. This is a hot station. Anthony: Chris Paul's Winston-Salem Weekend. B-Daht: Off the chain Bananas. Celebrity-filled. Memorable. Anthony: Dream date. B-Daht: Kim Kardashian. That's my secret crush right now. But don't tell Ray-J. I'm not even worried about Reggie Bush. I'm trying to get Chris to fly me down, kick it with him. Then, get around Reggie, talk to Kim... make it happen. Then, I'm outta there. Anthony: (Laughs.) No doubt. Uh, Josh Howard. B-Daht: The mayor. I give him so much props. He's so underrated on and off the court. He's a smart dude. He just needs t6" watch the people that he keeps around him. He's a great dude that always gives back. He gives back to Reynolds Park because that's where he's from. A lot of the things Josh does goes unno ticed. Anthony: I agree. Um. B Daht. B-Daht: Still grinding The funniest guy around here. I'm really about to take it up a notch in this comedy. I'm just now getting my foundation started too. It's a non-profit called D.A.H.T (Daht attempt ing to help teens). I'm geared at helping 13 19 year-old kids. I want to be a mentor to those kids. Uh. the Prank's are out. You can hit me on myspace at www.myspace.com/bdaht. I'm looking for some spots. Right now you can pick it up at Fresh Flava's at the Walkertown shopping center. I'm still grinding. Just trying to keep moving forward.
