special to me. I even had a cou
ple of flashbacks when 1 walked
on this field again."
Camp sessions included
football instruction and educa
tional workshops presented by
NFL veterans and collegiate
standouts. The two-day camp
concluded on Tuesday, with
instructions and speeches from
former NFL players A. J.
Nicholson (Cincinnati Bengals)
and Anthony Pleasant (New
England Patriots). Several
Winston-Salem State and Wake
Forest players also gave instruc
tion during the camp. Various
area high school and Tiny
Viking coaches were also very
instrumental in the success of
the Crowe 11 football camp.
"Anytime you can come and
talk to the kids to give them
some direction it's special,"
said former New England
Patriot defensive lineman
Anthony Pleasant, who played
14 seasons in the NFL. "I espe
cially love the opportunity to
get to speak with some African
American kids. The best thing
about this camp is that they get
to meet professional athletes. I
didn't get a chance to do any
thing like that when I was
younger. So, I'm really enjoy
ing everything."

Buffalo Bills star Angelo Crowell was on hand for the special

place at Forsyth Country Day
and North Forsyth. Tiny
Vikings representatives hope to
continue the partnership with
the Crowells for years to come.
"We really do," said Stowe.
"I think this camp will continue
be a success. We'd love to con
tinue to provide this camp for
these kids."
Angelo and Germane
Crowell both graduated from
North Forsyth High School and
attended the University of
Virginia. Younger brother,
Juwon Crowell, graduated from
Carver and East Carolina. He's
presently negotiating with sev
eral squads to participate in
summer camps. Angelo Crowell
w^s named the Defensive MVP
for the Buffalo Bills this past
season. Angelo Crowell is
reportedly about to sign a multi
year contract with the Bills.

Wake finishes 45th in
Director's Cup standings

Wake Forest finished 45th in the United States Sports Academy Director's Cup standings for
the 2007-08 season. The Demon Deacons tallied 445.75 points over the course of the year,

productive for
the Deacs as
teams tallied
278 points and
stood in sixth
place overall.
The standings
include 279
institutions
which compete
in Division I
athletics.
The
Director's Cup
is presented
annually by the
National
Association of
Collegiate
Director's of
Athletics
( N A C D A ) ,.
United State
Sports Academy
and USA Today.
Stanford was
awarded its
14th consecu
tive Director's
Cup as it tallied
1461 points.
Points ,in the
Director's Cup
standings are
given based on
each institu
tion's finish in
up to 20 sports
from the year,
including 10 men's sports and 10 women's sports. Wake Forest has 16 athletic teams.
UCLA finished second followed by Michigan, Arizona State, Texas, Florida. California, LSU,
Penn State and Georgia to round-out the top 10. North Carolina was the highest finishing Atlantic
Coast Conference team. The Tar Heels ended the year in 14th place.
Wake was coming-off a 2006-07 season which witnessed the Deacs' best Director's Cup finish
in school history; a 23rd place finish. Wake Forest men's soccer produced the highest point total
of the season as its National Championship gave the Deacs 100 points for the fall semester.
Women's field hockey followed with 83 points, thanks to its Final Four appearance in the NCAA
Championship.
The women's golf team's tenth-place finish at the NCAA Championships gave Wake the most
points from any of its spring teams with 66.75.
