Deacs, Hornets
pick up titles at
Hanes Hosiery
BY TREVOR LAWSON
SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE p
After the smoke settled last week, there
were only two teams standing in the Hanes
Hosiery Hot Hoops League. The Deacons were
able to take down the Tarheels for the 6-10
Division championship, while the Hornets
defeated the Spurs to take home the 11-14
championship.
Deacons 29, Tarheels 13 (6-10 Division):
Caleb Burgess drilled 14 points, while Deja
Davis and Asanti Debriel combined for 10 more
points to lead the Deacons past a tough Tarheel
squad, 29-13.
Other Deacon standouts were Noah
Coleman, Keonte Singletary, Tyrekfr Hazel and
Innanuel Moore. The Tarheels were led by
Haven Hairston. Hairston finished the game
with 6 points. Sherrard Wells added 3 points,
while Arniecia Patterson and Tosiah Goodman
contributed 2 points apiece.
Hornets 38, Spurs 30 (11-14 Division):
Football season at North Forsyth couldn't begin
soon enough for the No. 2 seeded Spurs, as
Rakie Badger (who's a football player at North)
put the final touches on a great summer league
season by helping his Hornets win the title over
the Spurs.
Badger and Emmanuel Maree combined for
24 points, while Rae Brown, Devonte Williams
and Hasan Smith conbined for 14 points to pro
pel the top-seeded Hornets to the win. Brown,
Williams and Smith also controlled the boards
for most of the contest. The Spurs went through
the big game without two of their normal
starters (Daniel Woodruff and Gary Lash Jr.),
but they found help from the talented Celeste
Burgess and Daquan Lee. Dedric Hawkins,
Tyree Purvis and Roosevelt Harrison also
played big for the Spurs, despite the loss.

never seen anything like that.
"The last time I saw some
thing like that was when I was

"Or.one time a car flashed by
me on the highway really fast.
That's the closest thing I can
compare to Lightening Bolt.
He's truly amazing. Seriously,
that was probably the best
performance in the 100 I've
ever seen. He dominated some
great athletes out there. I
think I need to take a trip to
Jamaica and get some of their
training tips now."
What's crazy is the fact
that Usain Bolt just started to
run in the 100 meter race a

was actually the second time
he's broken the 100-meter
record this year. He also broke
