Mrs. Charlestine Anderson went
home to be with the Lord on August
7th, 2008 at 8:36 p.m. Her late parents
Charlie and Robirtha S. Davis were
blessed with their only child on
October 1st, 1934. She was bom in
Gordon, GA, raised in Macon ,G A and
lived most of her life in New Jersey
until 1997, when she relocated to
Advance, North
Carolina.

Jersey. Charlestine also leaves behind
a host of loving relatives and friends.
There is much to be said for southern
hospitality.
Charlestine lead a very productive
life as a wife, mother, teacher's assis
tant and dietary assistant. She received
certificates of recognition for her years
of dedicated service from her employ
ers. She was also very well loved and
respected by her peers and co-workers.
Charlestine was an active member at
United Metropolitan Missiqpary
Baptist Church while she was in good
health. She served as a senior usher,
senior missionary and delivered meals
on-wheels to home bound seniors.
The home going service was held at
United Metropolitan Missionary
Baptist Church on Saturday, August
16th, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Prince
Rainey Rivers officiated. The family
visited with friends 30 minutes prior to
the service. Interment at the Evergreen

Mr. Clarence "Pate" Ashe, Jr.
passed away on Aug. 12 at the age of
65 at the Wake Forest
University/Baptist Medical Center
after a four month stay in the ICU Unit
5A.
He was born July 1 , 1943. Pete was
of the Baptist faith
and was a member
of Mount Sion
Baptist Church.
He was preceded
in death by his par
ents; two sisters, his
grandmother; and
foster mother.
Surviving are his
wife, Pat. Ashe of
Winston-Salem, N.C.; four children,
Scheirich Ashe, Michelle Wright ,
Michael Ashe and Rhonda Ashe all of
the city; he was the proud grandfather
of 8 grandchildren and three great
grandchildren; his foster father, AJ
Wilson; six foster brothers; three foster
sisters; and a host of other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 pwm.

The gift of time given to Sister
Louise Davis began on January 3, 1909
in Winston-Salem. N.C. her birth place.
In the ensuing years she grew in grace
and knowledge, and with the nurturing
of loving parents, the late Junius and
Lu Ann Hammond. The developmental
time she spent in the public schools of
Winston-Salem underscored her subse
quent attendance at Winston-Salem
Teachers College and La Mae Beauty
College. She furthered her education
in the metropolitan New York City
area, where she graduated from the
Orchid School of Cosmetology; she
earned a Doctorial degree in her voca
tional field of choice. ""
The span of time commonly known
as "retirement", found Sister Louise
Davis enjoying her golden years with
an uncommon zest
for life and living.
After taking up resi
dence in Sunrise
Towers of Winston
Salem in 1970, she
continued to be a
vibrant spirit and
role model in the
company of her
contemporaries, as
well as persons her junior. In the
appointed days of that providential
order, she enthusiastically engaged her
self in the affairs of her community as
a member of the Resident Council
Housing Authority Commission, Urban
League, National Council of Negro
Women, Piedmont Council on Aging,
^Forsyth Democratic Party, NAACP,
Experiment in Self-Reliance Board,
East Winston Development, INC, and
The Order of the Eastern Star. In 1989
she won the coveted title of Miss North
Carolina Senior Citizen Queen, a
crowning moment in her many life
experiences. For her commendable use
of her appointed time, she received a
Lifetime Achiever's Award by the
Winston-Salem Chronicle. Until
declining health prevailed she was a
faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist
Church where she served in many offi
cial capacities
In the fullness of time, the transfor
mation of her appointed days came on
Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the
Lutheran Home in Winston-Salem.
And when her peaceful change cam,
many pleasant memories pervaded the
heart of her loving daughter, Jacki
Jenkins; her granddaughter, Michele R.
(James) Grace; a devoted niece,
Gwendolyn Wharton; a step-daughter,
Ernestine Nichols; her God-daughter,
Anne Hadley; the cousins and nieces in
New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida;
three great-grandchildren; seven great
great-grandchildren; the Grace Family
and many friends made during the
course of her appointed time. In the
passing of time, her late husband,
Raymond Davis and her grandson,
Bobby Ray preceded her in death.
Home going services were held at 1
p.m. June 18 from the Mt. Zion Baptist
Church. Rev. Dr. Serenus T. Chum, Sr.

Mrs. Mary Ruth Miller Greene of
Walkertown, N.C. passed away on
Aug. 12 at her residence. Mrs. Greene
was born July 24, 1922 in Forsyth
County to Elijah and Maude Miller, Sr.
Mrs. Greene graduated with 'honors
from Atkins High School in 1938 and
proceeded on to North Carolina
College and graduated with a Bachelor
lh Accounting in 1942. In 1959 she
became the first
black female
President of Safe
Bus Company and
she served the Safe
Bus Company and
the WSTA From
1942-1987. She is
honored in the
African- American
Museum of History
in Raleigh, NC and is a member of
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her brother, Elijah
Miller, Jr. and her only daughter, Man
Devonne Greene Gill.
She is survived by her husband,
James C. Greene, Sr. of 38 years; two
sons, Frederick T. Greene of Winston
Salem, N.C. and Reginald W. Burns of
San Francisco. C.A.; three step chil
dren, La Verne Freeman, Dianne
Jackson and James C. Greene, Jr. all of
Richmond, V.A.; four grandchildren.
Andrea M. Gill, Cedric E. (Vickie)
Gill, Jr., Mary L. Greene, and
Jacquelyn R. (Dexter) Lowe; six great
grandchildren, Jessica T. Gill, Kaleb,

Mrs. Ruthie Mae Jones was born in
Youngstown, Ohio on Jan. 10, 1940.
On Aug. 14 after a short period of ill
ness, she found her
peace.
Mrs. Jones, also
known to family
and friends as, "Dr.
Ruth", "The
Banker", and
"Ruthie" was
raised in Winston
Salem, N.C. and
was a registered
songwriter, Bible Scholar, authoress of
numerous poems, gourmet cook,
accountant, a "walking" medical ency
clopedia, and horticulturalist.
Ruthie was preceded n death by her
mother. Vary Lee Virginia Catuns; two
sons, the eldest, Harry Lee Jones, Jr.
and the youngest, Terrence Arthur
Jones.
Surviving are her husband of 48
years, Harry Lee Jones, Sr.; four chil
dren, Melanie Gibert, Jeanene
(Rodney) McCormick, Jeanette Jones
all of Winston-Salem, N.C. and
Michael (Barbara) Jones of
Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Naomi

Rev. Mother Lillian Robinson
Robinson was born May 21, 1923 to
the late Lacy and Ruth Robinson in
Aiken, South Carolina. She was called
home to be with the Lord on Monday,
August 11, 2008. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Irvin Oscar
"Kojack" Robinson; her son, Ronald
Miller; and her sisters, Frances
"Tossie" Robinson and Catherine
Manning.
Mother Robinson was a woman
whose life and ministry was dedicated
to the power ot
intercessory
prayer; a prayer
warrior who has
been used of God
to birth and sustain
many ministries
and leaders
throughout this
Triad area. She
could be found
most days hosting a
prayer meeting, evangelizing or minis
tering to a pastor and his or her spouse
in an intercessory prayer session in her
home. Mother Robinson believed the
scriptures when it declares .. pray with
out ceasing. She was a founding mem
ber of Ministry for Christ, Incorporated
where she served faithfully as Assistant
Pastor under the leadership of her pas
tor and daughter Bishop Andrea Miller
Nash. Mother Robinson was ordained
into Apostolic Leadership as Rev.
Mother by Holy Orders released at the
hand of Bishop Nash. Reverend
Mother Robinson is accredited for
assisting the ministry in many phases
of its growth and maintaining a spirit of
prayer. She will be greatly missed by
her church family and the manyv
churches she was blessed to share in
fellowship with through the years.
She has left a rich and enduring
legacy of life, family and Kingdom
service. Those charged with the preser
vation of this heritage are her children;

Smith departed this life on July 30.
2008 surrounded by family at Forsyth
Medical Center. She was born in
Forsyth County, NC on August 3, 1929
to the late Dolphus & Lucy Mitchell.
Fannie attended school in Forsyth
County and was employed at RJ.
Reynolds Tobacco Company where she
retired. She married to the late Luther
Ray Scales Six children were bom of
this union Lois (Eddie) Tripp and
Thelma Mitchell (Jack Dobson) of
Kinj;; Thomas (May) Scales and Elbert
(Barbara) Scales of Winston-Salem.

WHARTON
Mrs. Catherine W. Ayharton, 89,
died Monday, August 1 r, 2008 at her
residence after an extended period of
illness. She was bom in Fort Mill, SC
on March 31, 1919 to the late Joseph
and Nannie White Wynecoff. Catherine
was a graduate of Atkins High School.
She was employed as an elevator oper
ator at Old City Hall and as a nurse
assistant at Forsyth Medical Center,
ending her career in private duty. Mrs.
Wharton was preceded in death by her
husband. Otis B. Wharton and eight of
her ten siblings. She is survived by her
son, Otis B. Wharton, Jr.; a sister, Doris
Thomas of Cleveland, OH; a brother,
Donell (Dorothy) Wynecoff of the city;
a host of nieces, nephews, other rela
tives and friends. Interment in
Evergreen Cemetery .The family

Kelvin Crews Wharton, of
Mocksville, N.C. departed this life on
August 14 at the Kate B. Reynolds
Hospice Home following a period of
illness. He was born to William and
Waltina Wharton, and was a native of
Winston-Salem, N.C.
Kelvin received his education at
Dj)vie County Schools and N.C. School
orthe Arts. Kelvin was employed in the
Health Care Services field.
Kelvin was a member of the Galilee
Missionary Baptist Church where he
served on the following ministries;
Nurses Ministry, Spiritual Choir,
Galilean Choral Ensemble,
Bereavement Ministry, and the
Evangelism
Ministry. He was
also a Church
Administrative
Office volunteer.
Kelvin was pre
ceded in death by
his twin brother,
Keith, and his
grandparents. He
is survived by his
parents of the home; three brothers,
Billy (Michelle) Wharton of
Farmington, N.C.; Joe Hoover and
Harold Hoover of Winston-Salem,
N.C.; three sisters, Joanne Hughes and
Patricia Wharton of Winston-Salem,
N.C.; Lisa (Bryant) Smoot of
