Deacs to play 15 home games at the Joel Coliseum

Wake Forest's 29-game
regular season schedule was
released by the Atlantic Coast
Conference office on Tuesday
afternoon. The schedule is
highlighted by 15 home
games at Lawrence Joel
Veterans Memorial Coliseum,
a Thanksgiving trip to the
Anaheim Classic and nine
appearances on the
ESPN/ABC family of net
works.
The Demon Deacons, who
will be led by second-year
head coach Dino Gaudio, will
face 1 1 teams that participated
in postseason play in 2007-08,
including seven that made the
J^CAA Tournament.
Wake Forest will appear
on television 21 times, includ
ing 13 national telecasts op
the ESPN/ABC family of net
works (nine times) or on Fox
Sports Net (four times). The
Deacons will get their share
of national television expo
sure when they compete in the
2008 Anaheim Classic, held
Nov. 27-30 at the Anaheim
Convention Center in
Anaheim, Calif. ESPN is the
host for the tournament, and
?ill three of Wake s games will
be televised on either ESPN2
or ESPNU.
Wake Forest opens the
season with three straight
non-conference home games
beginning with North
C arolina Central on Nov. 14.
The Deacs will also play host
to in-state rival UNC
Wilmington on Nov. 19 and
city-rival Winston-Salem
State on Nov. 24.
From there, it is off to the
West Coast for the Deacs
where they will open the
Anaheim Classic against 2008
NCAA Tournament team Cal
State Fullerton. The Titans
earned a surprise berth to the
Big Dance last season by win
ning the Big West Conference
Tournament. Wake will either
play St. Mary's, another 2008
NCAA Tournament team, or
UTEP in the second round of
the Anaheim Classic.
The Deacs will face
Arizona State. Baylor,
Charlotte or Providence in the
third round of the tournament.
Baylor made the 2008 NCAA
Tournament field, while
Arizona State and Charlotte
participated in the NIT.
The Deacs will return
home to open the month of
December by hosting Indiana
in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge
on Dec. 3. Wake will then host
Bucknell on Dec. 6 and
Wright State (Fox Sports Net)
on Dec. 14. The Deacons will
hit the road for their first true
away game on Dec. 19 at
Richmond. Wake will then
play at in-state rival East
Carolina on Dec. 22 before
returning home to host
Radford on Dec. 30. Wake is
set to ring in the New Year
with a tough road test at
Brigham Young on Jan. ? in
Provo, Utah.
With its 13-game non-con
ference schedule wrapped up,
Wake Forest will open ACC
play on Jan. 11 by hosting
defending ACC champion
North Carolina. In its 16
game conference schedule,
Wake Forest will play five
opponents twice in home-and
home series. Those opponents
include Boston College,
Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech
and NC State.
The 2009 ACC
Tournament is set for March
12-15 at the Georgia Dome in
Atlanta, Ga. It will mark the
first time since 2001 that the
conference tournament has
been held in Atlanta. Wake
Forest will play one exhibi
tion game prior to the start of
the 2008-09 season, as the
Deacs will host Mount Olive
on Nov. 6 at the Joel
Coliseum.

Wake soccer gets No. 1 ranking

The Wake Forest men's soccer learn picked up
its fourth No. 1 ranking of the preseason on
Tuesday when Soccer America tabbed the defend
ing national champions as the top-ranked team in
its preseason poll.
The Deacons have now received four No. 1
rankings in the preseason, already earning the top
spot in preseason polls released by the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America and adi
das. Soccer Times and CollegeSoccerNews.com.
Wake Forest completed a successful preseason
last weekend defeating No. 20 Furman 1-0 in the
team's exhibition finale. The Deacons opened the
preseason with a 5-1 victory over Wofford.
Two other ACC teams join Wake Forest in the
top 10 of the Soccer America poll. Maryland was
picked fourth, while defending ACC Champion
Boston College was tabbed seventh. Other ACC
squads to make the top 25 include Virginia ( 1 8th).
Virginia Tech (20th) and North Carolina (?4th). (
Three Wake Forest Players Named All
Americans by CollegeSoccerNews.com: Cody
Arnoux. Sam Cronin and Marcus Tracy were
tabbed as preseason Ail-Americans by
CollegeSoccerNevys.com. Cronin and Tracy were
named to the first team, while Arnoux was select
ed for the second team. All three players were
recently selected to the Missouri Athletic Club's
Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Arnoux, a junior from Wilmington, N.C., led
Wake Forest in goals and points in 2007 with 15
and 38, respectively. Arnoux started the 2008 sea
son in similar fashion, scoring three times in
Wake's two exhibition games, including providing
the game- winner in each contest.
A senior from Winston-Salem, Cronin has
started every game since he arrived at Wake
Forest. In 2007, Cronin scored three goals and
added eight assists for the Deacs. Soccer America
tabbed Cronin First Team MVP after the 2007 sea
son. while the NSCAA named Cronin a Second
Team All- American.

Marcus Tracy and the rest of the Deacs will

(1 1), assists (9) and points (31). Tracy scored three
second-half goals in Wake Forest's exhibition
opener against Wofford. The Newtown, Conn,
native was named Most Outstanding Offensive
Player of the 2007 College Cup after scoring three
goals, including two in Wake Forest's semifinal
victory over Virginia Tech. Tracy was also named
All-ACC Second Team in 2007.
Wake Forest opens its regular season schedule
on Friday at 5 p.m. (ET) against Virginia
Commonwealth in the Nike Carolina Classic in
Chapel Hill. The Deacs will face Florida
International on Sunday at 2 p. m. (ET) on the final
day of the Nike Carolina Classic.
