CAPERS On* Mitnday, December 1 , 2008, Mr. Alphonso "Big Al" Capers Sr. passed away after a lengthy illness at Forsyth Medical Center sur rounded by his loving family. He was born in Forsyth County No vember 8, 1949 to the late Earnest and Eloise Capers. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 30 years of service. He is sur vived by his loving, de voted and loyal wife, Cassandra Epps-Capers; three children, Sabrina Ca pers, Latrese Capers (Nate Pinckney), and Alphonso Capers Jr.; a loving mother-in-law, Verdell Price; two dedicated and loving sisters, Theresa (Artis) Rucker and Mazie (Jerry) Marlin; two very special people he considered a sister and brother. Eva Evans-Arradondo and husband James Arradondo; four wonderful grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Tre'Shawn Ca pers, JaLyn Bowman-Capers, Tai jah Capers and Tyre Capers; four caring nephews, Carlos Rucker, Brian Rucker, Jeremy Marlin, and Jarrett Marlin; friends Arthur Jones, Alfred Adams, Thomas Woods and a host of loyal and ded icated relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dr. Tobias E. LaGrone officiated. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery. EDWARDS Mrs. Cora Moore Edwards, the daughter of Mr. Thomas Stukes and Hattie Stukes, was born November 17, 1929. She departed this life peacefully on December 9, 2008 at l i ner nome. She was educated in Forsyth County at Atkins High School and worked at Baptist Hospi tal for a long period of time. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Hanes C.M.E. Church, where she served on the Usher Board for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to cherish loving memories sons, the Reverend Clyde A. (Peggy) Moore of Forest City, N.C. and Deacon Reggie L. (Paulette) Moore of Winston Salem, N.C.; daughter, Devora (Gerard) Gee, Baltimore, M.D.; sis ters, Sarah Wingate of Winston Salem, N.C. and Frankie Lewis of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren, Denard, William. Melissa, Corey, Regina, Reggie Jr., Derrick, Can dace, Starr, and Rochelle; five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Reverepd Stacey Frazier officiated and Rev. Clyde A. Moore, Jr. eulogist. MARTIN Mrs. Eddice Blackshear Martin, 91, of 801 Rankin Street, passed away, Friday. December 12. 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born July 18, 1917 to Frank and Laura Clark Blackshear in Abbeville, Georgia. She was educated in the public schools of Atlanta, Georgia and re ceived her nursing degree I from Grady I Hospital Nurs- I ing School in I Atlanta. Mrs. Mar- | tin was a dedi- I c a t e d I Registered I Nurse for 55 I years, having 1 worked at Kate Bitting Hospital. Moses Cone, Hos pital, and Charter Hospital of Win ston-Salem. After retiring, she did a great deal of volunteering, in cluding with Mental Health Associ ation and Forsyth Memorial Hospital Patient Information. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Charles T. Martin. Surviving are her devoted daughter, Eddice Charlette Barks dale of the home; devoted grand sons, Tobe Z. Barksdale, II (Linda) of Bolton, MA and Martin "Kaz" Barksdale of the home; five sisters and one brother, two great grand children, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. \ Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at St. Benedict The Moor Catholic Church, with Father Larry Heiney officiating. Interment fol lowed in Piedmont Memorial gar dens. Family visitation was held from 6 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, De cember 16, 2008 at the Russell Fu neral Home. PRINCE Master Khalid Prince, 15, of Winston-Salem was called home December 6, 2008 at the Wake For est University Baptist Medical Cen ter in Winston-Salem. He was born March 30, 1993 in Winston-Salem to Kimba Prince and C a r 1 e s t e r Massey. K h a 1 i d was a mem ber of First Alliance Church. "KP" or "Prince" as he was affec tionately known was educated in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. He was on the 2008 All County 1st Team Defense Team. Captain for The Parkland Mustangs Basketball and Foot teams. He was Pop Warner football player with the Greyhounds. He also played basketball with Reynolds Park Recreation Center He was preceded in death by his great, grandparent, Willa Prince; great-great, grandmothers, Connie Prince and Corrina Scott; and an great-great uncle, Arlington Scott, Sr. He leaves to cherish his mem ory his mother. Funeral services were held at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Pkwy, with Dr. Mitchell L. Dawkins and Pastor Derrick Ronk officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation was held from 7 until 9 p.m. at the church on Fri day, December 12, 2008. The fam ily will received friends at the Hilton Garden Inn off Hanes Mall Blvd. on Thursday. December 11 through Saturday, December 13.
