On Inauguration 'Day, Jan. 20, The Old North State Medical Society will present America's first African American president , BaraCk Obama, with a comnf?mora tive book full of greetings and congratulations from North Carolina admirers and well-wishers _\siho cannot travel to w as hington DC. to attend but, want to be there in spirit to mark this moment ift histo ry: According to Old Nj*lh State Society | ('O N S. M S ) 'txec u t i v e Director Thea Monet, the "Commemorative Book of Wishes" will include photo graphs. congratulatory state ments of support, and per sonal well-wishes from indi viduals; sororities: fraterni ties, churches and other organizations who want to honor Obama, Vice President Joe Biden. their families, and the historic inauguration. Photographs in the booii'-Will include those taken of President-elect Obama's visits to North Carolina. Monet said they are taking names of well wishers to be inscribed in the commemorative book through Jan. 7. "President-elect Barack Obama has rekindled the hope and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He fosters a climate of inclusion that affirms that even the Jeast of us has a voice," said Monet. "The 'Commemorative Book of Wishes' represents an expression of that voice." Monet said signers of the book will receive an official certificate that will be his toric, something to be shown to chfldren and to their chil dren. Signature forms and commemorative books are avail-able for purchase.online at the organization's web site, ONSMS.org. Tax deductible donations and proceeds from the sale of the book and signature inclu sions wijl be used to the help the nonprofit organi zatfon' fund projects that help address health * disparities that affect the state's communities. ONSMS is also hosting a VIP Inaugyral Celebration and Parade on Inauguration Day in Raleigh. The day's events will include a view ing party and swearing-in ceremony, a VIP Inaugural Lunch, and a parade to held at 2 p.m. Founded in 1886, Old North State Medical Society is the nation's oldest associ ation of black physicians representing the interests of 2,200 African American physicians in North Carolina. As a 50l -(c) (3) nonprofit organization, it has spent the last 122 years working to improve health outcomes for African Americans and other people of color and those of lowest wealth.
