Second St.. on June 6 at 1 1 a.m. There will be a delicious brunch and special entertain ment. The donation for admission is $25. Proceeds from dona tions will be used for scholarships to deserv ing college-bound stu dents and students already attending col D'Walla Simmons Burke lege. Pfafftown Chapter Achievers believe the most effec tive way to encourage students' success is through helping to bear the heavy burden of college expenses. She began by hooting barbecues in her backyard three times a year that were open to the entire communi ty. Providing a meal for those who were in need and ttiose who just w;anted to enjoy the neighborly feast, gave Ms Blackburn a sense of accomplishment This annual tradition evolved into what is now knowa as the Old School Social Club, a non-profit organization that encourages (he love of music created from .1960 through tlhe 1980s.- This organization's. main focus is to provrde assistance to fam ilies in economic need in the community. ; . Club members present stipends to students. The Old School Social Club reached out to the stu dents of Hall-Woodward Elementary and provided many, opportunities for them. The Old School Social Club began its work at Hall Woodward by sponsoring children in financial need for a Christmas project. Each child received many gifts for themselves and their families. The gifts were distributed at a Christmas Dinner that was provided by the Club for the students and their families. ? The Club also conducted fundraisers in order to assist the fifth grade students at the school in planning a trip to Washington,. DC. Through their fundrajsing. Club members were also able to send four children on the trip. The Old School Social Club has been a wonderful addition to the Hall Woodward family. They are always willing to help with their time and support stu dents in any way they can. Several members also par ticipated in the school's recent Celebrity Reader event.
