The theme for this year's ban quet, which was held at the Forsyth County Center on Fairchild Road, was *'A New Paradigm in 2009 " The guest speaker was Minister Telika McCoy, of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She received a standing ovation for delivering a thought-provoking mes sage about God-conscious people learning to appreci ate how life experiences are preparing them for a greater purpose. The, keynote speaker, was Imam Omar Shaheed of Columbia S.C. , where he is the Resident fmarn of Masjid As-Salaam. He pre sented a historical and spiritual perspective on the unique role and responsi bilities that African Americans have in making America a hetter nation. His remarks were also wel comed with a standing Scholarship winners Lai Tran, Quaniesha Perrin and Ciara J. Robertson. ovation. Muhammad Husan served as master of cere monies and used humor and keen youthful perspec tives to keep the program lull of family fun and enlightenment. The deli cious meal was enjoyed by all as the youths performed a number of songs and dances. A new feature enti tied. "'A Reflective Look at the Masjid," ofganized by Joe'l A.R Saahir, provided moments of historical information about pioneers of the community. Four high school stu dents received scholar ships. McClary was licensed as a minister in July of 1996 and ordained in August of 2004 at New Light Baptist Church, then under the excep tional leadership of Dr. Charles R Green. Serving as God's Priests Lesson Scripture: Leviticus 8:1-13 Lesson Aims: To summarize the ordination of Aaron and his sons as God's priests; to recognize the seriousness and sacredness of being a priest for God; and to deepen our commitment to His Calling. Background: "The book of Exodus spoke of deliverance (redemp tion), cleansing, wor ship., and service. Leviticus provided the details for the second book of the Pentateuch." Sapp on behalf of the Provincial Elders' Conference. To min istry, Sapp brings his wife, Karen. Originally from Forsyth County. Sapp is a graduate of High Point University. He was awarded his Master of Divinity in 2006 from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Mass. He also earned a certificate after spending a year at Moravian Theological Seminary in Bethlehem. Penn. Sapp was ordained a dea con in February 2006.
