Religion Calendar Happening Now Substance abuse help House of Faith Community Outreach Center, 1384 West Sedgefield Drive, is now offering substance abuse services to the community facilitated by a certi fied substance abuse specialist. Call 336-986-7725 for more infor mation. Fine Arts Camp Covenant Presbyterian Church will host a Fine Arts Camp for grades 5-12 from Monday, July 6 - Thursday, Aug. 13 (on Mondays - Thursdays only). The camp, which will offer piano, voice, strings, drawing/painting and pho tography, will be from 9 a.m. to noon. The church is located at 3627 Konnoak Drive. Free lunch program for kid's Apostle Sylvester Davis Johnson and the Macedonia Worship Center, 500 Kinard Drive, will sponsor a free summer lunch program for children 18 and under in July. July 26. Rev. Hayek has accepted the call to be dean of the Cathedral of the Incarnation in the Diocese of Maryland in Baltimore. Leave-taking rites for the Rev. Hayek and his family will be celebrated at the 8:30 a.m. and 1 1 a.m. services with the Rt. Rev. Alfred C. "Chip" Marble Jr., assisting bishop of the Diocese of North Carolina, officiating. A special Evening Prayer' service to celebrate Rev. Hayek's shared ministry with the Winston-Salem community will be held at 5 p.m. The Rev. Darryl W. Their stability is based on Yahweh (God) speaking through Moses, Joshua, the Judges, the Prophets and, ultimately kings on where to go; what to do, and how to do." Israel traces her heritage back to their patriarchs, Abraham. Isaac, and Jafcob (Israel). Every generation is taught this, even today. I neir territo ry is Canaan. The Promised Land that they are on their way to reclaim. Don't forget that they've been in Egypt for 430 years (Exodus 12:40-41). An agrarian society based on fairness will be established once they control their land. For now, as they wander. God feeds them daily and even honors special requests (Exodus 16). Their culture and language are distinctive among all of their neighbors. They worship the One and Only God who visits them in the Tabernaele. He guides, protects and provides for them in every aspect of their lives. As Moses continues to instruct them, they learn the See Peppers on A 1 2 Mildred Peppers Sunday School Lesson Events will honor retiring Stevenson SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Dr. Samuel Stevenson, who has led Graee Presbyterian Church for 19 years, will retire at the end of August 2009. Grace will celebrate his excellent leadership on Aug. 16. Stevenson will preach his last sermon on this day at the 1 1 a.m. worship service. A Farewell Banquet in the Grand Ballroom of the Embassy Suites will follow later that day at 4 p.m. Tickets for this occasion are $40 and may be purchased by contacting the church office at 336-767 - 7530. Stevenson has been a strong community advocate for Winston-Salem who has worked tirelessly to improve the bond between Christians and other faith communities. He has labored in the Minister's Conference of Winston Salem and Vicinity; CHANGE, the Salem Presbytery and many other organizations. Under his leadership, Grace celebrated its centennial year in 2007 and refocused its efforts on evangelism. These com munity outreach efforts include the Grace Ibraham Tutorial Program; the Carver School Road Network for Better Education; a specialized youth ministry for disadvantaged youth from the community; and a revitalized ministry of music, along with many others. E Kernerville's Iglesia Cristiana Wesleyana will host the Peace Cup Festival on Sunday. July 26 from 2 - 8 p.m. The interfaith festival includes the Second Annual Peace Cup Games, which will pit different interfaith ministries against each other in matches of soccer, volley ball and tug of war. The fes tival also includes a Parents of-Excellence Awards Ceremony, live music, kids activities,, raffles, prizes, food and fellowship. From 1987 through 1989 Iglesia Cristiana Wesleyana Pastor Ferfrufi Bocanegra. inspired by Romans 12:5 "so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." held the "Friendship Games" in an effort to bring harmony and unity among different Hispanic churches. His continuing vision of uni fying the body of Christ inspired him to build a place where people can come together to play, have fun and fellowship. According to Pastor Bocanegra, the festival, "is a dream-come-true." Bocanegra said the guiding principle of the event is that all believers are one family. Last year, the first Peace Cup Festival was initiated and six religious groups, including Christians, Muslims and Jews attended. Admission is S3 for those 10-years-old and up. 'Healing' theme of women's celebration SPECIAL TOTHE CHRONIC1 1 Women will celebrate healing in a time of change on Sunday, July 26th, at Wells Memorial Church of God in Christ, 1001 East Washington St. in Greensboro. The II a.m. speaker is Supervisor Vi Curtis Little of the Greater Deliverance Church of God in Christ in Washington. D.C. The 5 p.m. speaker is Elder Linda Cohen of the New Covenant United Holy Church of Burlington. A special women's choir will provide inspirational music for both services.
