"* The 18thN'Annual Pond Neighborhood ' Reunion will take place Saturduw'Ati;:^ K from 4 - K p..m. at its new location - the Martin Luther King Recreation Center. 2001 Pittsburg Avenue, between Crawford. Place and W. 23rd Street All current and former Pond residents are invited to attend . The Pond ' got its name when the entire wall of the .reservoir that overlooked the downward path of North Trade Street collapsed in 1904. Since then, the name "Pond" has been associated with the Trade Street area, which extends over to. Seventh Street ;ind includes ?> areas <m uignn anu ntisr>urgn avenues. Black families that sur vived., this disastrous event banded together, worked hard, prayed much, and out of this community many excelled. The community produced the nationally known Pond Giants sports team and the chart-topping group. The Five Royals. This year, event attendees will have access to the rec center's track, picnic shelter and sv, imminc pool. There is also access- to a. large shady ' area, so^ everyone- is encour aged bring tents. Winter Age Group ( 12 - 16): Brianna Johnson, Kendron Ross and Brandon Smith. There was singing, danc ing and lots of fun before the winners were crowned. The summer winner was Kaleah Deshawn Gist, daughter of Jessica Bryant and Michael Gist.
