Evans, a member of Sisters of Bivouac Chapter #530 Order of the Eastern Star, won the 2009 Miss OES contest for the 30th District Order of the Eastern Star. P.H.A. The contest was held on Sunday. Aug. 2 at the Goler Memorial AME Zion Conference Center. The first runner-up was Sis. Magdalene Cuthreli; the second runner-up was Sister Veronica Sawyer. The other participants were Sis. Ashley Roseboro, Sis. Muriel Wilkjns and Sis. LaKrista Page. Evans has been a member of Sisters of Bivouac #530 for three years and holds the posi tion of secretary. She has served in various other posi tions in the Chapter and assists the Mary L. Fair Gleaner Branch #137 as a supervisor. She is a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and a parent member of Troop #916 of Boy Scouts of America. She is the daugh ter of Carol Miller and the proud mother of a son, Tyriq Evans. Her favorite pastime is reading; she is an active mem ber of A Room Full of Sistahs Book Club. Sister Cynthia D. Acker is Worthy Matron of Sisters of Bivouac Chapter #530. Cuthrell is a member of Beauty of the West #36. She has been a member for over 1 5 years and is an Honorary Past Matron and holds the position of trustee chairperson. She is a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Sister Cassandra Boyd is the Worthy Matron Of Beauty of the West #36. Sawyer is a member of Queens of Olympic Chapter #620 and holds the position of Worth) Matron for the second year. She is a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and is employed by Reynolds American. Wilkins is a member of Rose MeCloud Chapter #608 of Walkertown, which is led by Worthy Matron Sister Cheryl Keaton. Page is a member of Meridian Chapter #308. which is ted by Sister Jennifer Lyons. the Worthy Matron. I Roseboro is a member of Sisters of James H. Young Memorial Chapter #592. of which Sister Carolyn Jones serves as Worthy Matron. Past Matron Justina Garrett was mistress of cere monies for the program. Honorary Past Matron Barbara Wardlow cave the opening and the benediction. Past Matron Eula Colter of Queens of Olympic #620 gave the wel come, and Past Matron Shirley P. Cheeks gave the occasion. The Calvary Dancers per formed two liturgical dances. Worthy Matron Carolyn Jones introduced the contestants, while Past Matron Sylvia Gwyn gave the results of the contest. Sister Stella Davis. 2008 queen and a member of Sisters of Bivouac #530. ' crowned the new queen. Sister Barbara P. Martin, Deputy Grand Matron of District 30. presented each contestant with a plaque and a gift and gave closing remarks. Sister Rebecca Williams of Pride of the Yadkinites #612 gave a closing prayer and grace for the reception. Worthy Matrons Carplyn Jones and Cynthia Acker served as co-chairs for the contest. Several scholarships awarded to future educator SPt-C'l Al 10 nil C MKOMl I I Crystal Shantrice Isler. a 200M graduate of West Forsyth High School, is a recipient of the N.C. Teaching Fellows Scholarship. The scholarship is worth $26,000. Isler has also received a $1,000 scholarship from Delta. Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.. and an $8,000 scholar ship from the Edgar and Lois Reich Scholarship Fund. In addition, she received the Crosby Scholars Executive Director's Award of Distinction and has success fully fulfilled all of the requirements for the North Carolina Academic Scholar -program. Isler Isler will participate in the Teaching Fellows pro gram at UNC-Charlotte in the fall. She is the daughter of Michael and Cindy Isler and the sister of Derrick Mcr.
