Beginning with the subject
of divorce. Jesus enlightens
all those who will listen. He
and His followers are in
Judah. As they approach
Jerusalem. Jesus again pre
dicts His death. Two of the
inner circle come to Jesus
with a request: can we sit on
your right and left? Now
don't he so hard on them, a
lot of us d<> the same thing.
Humanity (some of us) seek
fame, fortune and power.
James and John are still
caught up with the worldly
view of Messiah. They are
referred to as the Sons of
Thunder 111 Mark 3:17. This
title is probably based on
their ambition. They simply
want to be great! Is Jesus
angry with them? I don't
think so. but he stresses that
they must endure the same
cup that He will drink from.
Do they understand? No!
But they have a desire for
greatness. Then they are
informed that He doesn't
make that decision. God
does (Matthew 20:23). Like
us. the other disciples are
upset because they really
want those seats for them
selves. Jesus uses this oppor
tunity to teach. It is definite
ly a teachable moment. The
lesson, a paradox, is simple:
to be great, one has to serve.
putting themselves last.
Greatness comes from with
in and is expressed outward
ly as serving others. Service
is by deed, not word of
mouth. Using Himself as the
example, not once does He
expect people to wait on
Him. The epitome of service
is His sacrifice of suffering
and death for humanity.
They are to do as He does
for His words and actions
are parallel!
Application: For the
Christian, it is paramount to
remember that our standards
are different from the
world's standards. With that
being the case, we should
not get contused. Our banner
is service not fame, fortune
or power. To really serve, we
must be comfortable with
who and whose we are.
There is no room for jeal
ousy, hidden agendas or
back stabbing. "The world
says leadership, favoritism
and authority are what mat
ters" ( Echoes Adult Teacher
Commentary). When the
love of God is accepted
within, your perspective on
everything changes. If we
think about it, God already
knows us, including every
hair on our heads. Lasting
greatness is found in service,
nothing else. Servanthood,
humility and discipleship
counts!

\ Lasting Tribute to Our Parents
Bishop J.C. Richardson, Sr.
To most of you. was a true integrity that
possessed an amazing sense of humor,
he taught us to continue to be very
strong. Daddy had a very unusual way
with people. They gravitated to him
because his love, strength, compassion
and caring spirit. He helped everyone in
need with out being judgmental. He
could preach and teach with out brag
ging and he was a man of impeccable
faith, yet he realized that our time is not
God's time.
Sister Margaret Thompson Richardson
Just who was this great lady? To Pastor
Richardson. Jeanette and Mar) Ann. she was
Mojnma. To others, she was thought of as a
precious jewel, a confidant, and spiritual,
loving, compassionate, friendly, articulate,
intelligent, beautiful, and classy.
The one thing that stands out vividly in our
mind about our mother was her mastery of
the English language. We never heard our
mother "split a verb". She would give us a
brief lesson if we ever slipped and said any
thing incorrectly in her presence.
