Flapjack fundraiser Holmes Grove United Methodist Church of Greensboro will hold a flap jack fundraiser at Applebee's Restaurant on Wendover Avenue in Greensboro on Saturday, May 14 from 8-10 a.m. Proceeds will benefit Dudley High School Teacher Freda Mosely with medical bills associated with her double lung transplant. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the church, 1100 Alamance Church Road in Greensboro. Young Mustimah Conference The Department of Women's Affairs of the Community Mosque of Winston-Salem, 1419 Waughtown St., will host Dr. Maryam Funches 4th Annual Young Muslimah Conference on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. This year's conference will feature a marriage seminar for teen boys and girls ages 12-19. HT h e concert will fea ture spir i t u a 1 s , hymns, anthems and gospel songs, as Chavis well as popular musicians Dr. Roy Belfield Jr. and Lennis Cooper. The program is the brainchild of Katherine "Rosemary" Chavis, the church's minister of music. A native of Tarboro, Chavis has been a member of United Metropolitan since 1971. Chavis began working with the church's music department by serv ing as a pianist. By the 1990s, she was the director of the Senior Choir. After Chavis retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, she was asked to serve as Minister of Music by then Pastor J.D. Ballard. Rev. Prince Rivers is the church's current pastor. The Senior Choir is one of several choirs at United Metropolitan, which also boasts Gospel, Christian Fellowship, Men's, Women's, Youth and Tots choirs. The church's newest choir.
