Background: When God created the earth. He gave it air, water, vegetation and animals of all kinds. His crowning act was the creation of humanity, who was lower than the angels and higher than animals. This responsibility has been dubbed stewardship. It encompassed the idea of caring for or managing while the owner is away. They were not to exploit, waste or harm creation in any way. As Moses continued to instruct the Israelites on holy living, he taught them about the Year of Jubilee that was to be established once they got to the Promised Land (25:1-2). God also instituted the Sabbath on the seventh day of creation for rest and made it holy (Gen 2:2-3).
