Busy weekend for local Sigmas cpprl AL TO THE CHRONICLE Members of the Delta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity not only co-sponsored the Carl H. Russell Community Center Fourth Annual Back-to- School Community Cookout and School Supply Giveaway, but attended the event to help distribute sup plies to more than 250 kids. The event took place at the Rec Center on Friday, Aug. 10. In preparation for the giveaway, local Sigmas purchased school supplies and assembled packages of supplies for distribution. “This event would not have been made possible without the donations from community sponsors,” said Roseboro - Hams - White family holds 58th reunion SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The 58th Roseboro- Harris-White Reunion was held Aug. 10 - 12. The reunion was a dream and vision of the late Early and Ruth Roseboro, who held the very first reunion in their Pittsburgh Avenue backyard in 1954. This year’s kick-off was hosted by the youth of the family at the Anderson Recreation Center, where approximately 175 people enjoyed games, lots of food and great fellowship. The banquet, which was attended by 260 people, was sponsored by the women of the family. John Roseboro, 92, William, 90, and Calvin Harris, 87, were honored by by Bertha R. Parks as the old est members of the family. The youngest family member, Jacobie Roseboro of Ozark, Ala. was bom on Aug. 8. Robbie R. Allen recognized and introduced the many guests that were present. Curtis “Breadman” Roseboro and Azalee R. Vinson served as chairpersons of the Achievement and Scholarship Committee. This year, eight high school gradu ates were presented with gift cards. Each of the eight babies bom since last year was pre sented with a gift and trophy. Other students and members of the family received recog nition for special achieve ments such as making the honor roU. A special tribute was given to Sharon Roseboro and Lynwood Gilles, who were married on Aug. 4. Minnie Hampton and Jeffrey and Vanessa Roseboro traveled the greatest distance to attend. They live in Ozark, Ala. Anthony Littlejohn and his daughters and grandchil dren of New Jersey also trav eled quite a distance. The memorial service was con ducted by Viola P. Roseboro. Since last year’s reunion, the family lost two members; Archie “Bro” Roseboro and Kejuan Vinson. Each adult banquet attendee was presented with a ted goody-bag with Roseboro-White-Harris imprinted on it. After worshipping at Friendship Baptist Church on Aug. 12, the men of the fami ly hosted an evening of fun and fellowship at the Anderson Rec for a crowd of 400. Mildred Roseboro Griffin and Azalee Roseboro Vinson served as the reunion coordinators. Ben Piggott, Russell Center supervisor. During that same week end, a delegation of eight Delta Sigma members trav elled to Charlotte to attend the fraternity’s Serious Sigma Leadership Summit, which brought together Sigmas from all over the nation. The Conference was attended by 640 registrants and was the largest non- Conclave gathering of brothers in more than 20 years. During the Summit, col legiate advisors received their certification; fraternity leaders further developed their skills; Sigmas enhanced their organization al knowledge and reviewed the roll out of the upcoming New Membership Intake Process (NMIP). The Summit concluded with a Town Hall Meeting that included panelists like the Rev. A1 Sharpton and Phi Beta Sigma International President Jimmy Hammock.
