Lesson: The seventh month of the Jewish cal endar is Tishri (September-October). ' During one of their most sacred months, three major feasts occur. The Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah) is the begin ning of their civil new year. The tenth day of Tishri is the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). On that day the high priest makes confes sion for the entire com munity's sins and enters the Most Holy Place with the blood of reconcilia tion. See Leviticus 16:15. Recognizing the impor tance of Tishri, the peo ple in unity assemble to rebuild the Altar. Because of the nature of what they are about to do, the priests come first then the civil leaders. The Altar is erected on the original foundation, which sym bolizes their continued covenant relationship with God. Fearing their neighbors' response, they work together to get the job done. Upon completion, the body of the sacrificial animal(s) will be pre pared for the burnt offer ing. UMI "Adult Echoes" states that the priests got the bird's crop with the feathers and the bull's hide. The Temple's foun dation wasn't laid yet but they celebrated the Feast of Tabernacle (Booths) after Yom Kippur for five days. This celebration commemorates their wandering in the wilder ness. Money, food, drink and oils are collected to pay the craftsmen and to bring the cedar logs need ed to lay the Temple's foundation. Everything that's done is in accor dance with Cyrus' decree. Application: We wor ship (God's worth of praise) in response to His actions past, present and in the future. It begins in the heart and manifests itself in our behaviors. Worship cannot be forced and it is always sincere. When we acknowledge what God has done for us, our worship has to go beyond the few hours that we spend in a building or under a tent! God is first in all that we do. This includes sacrificing and giving Him our best. Worship is not "a little dab will do." Worship is not for show or entertain ment. When we think of His goodness, we wor ship and praise a mighty God that brings joy, unspeakable joy, in our lives. St. James from page B4 Lee Rev. Hank Simmons, pas tor of Bethany Community Church of Sedalia, will preach at the 7:45 a.m. service. The 11 a.m. service will feature Rev. Herbert Dickerson, pa&iui ui Orange Grove Baptist Church in Durham. Dr. Cardes H. Brown, pastor of New Light Baptist Church in Greensboro, will speak at 4 p.m. The idea to torm a cnurcn in a section of Greensboro then called Newtown was originated and spearheaded through the Rev. J. T. Hairston, who was then pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, which was located on Ashe Street at the time. In May 1906, the land was purchased from Jerry and Manerva Shoffner for $250. In March 1912, the trustees, James Allen, James Land and Lewis Trice, had the deed . ^ recorded and filed for registration in the Guilford County Courthouse. Through the efforts of C. C. Rucker. who chaired the board, construction of St. James began in 1913. In March 2001, the Reverend Vernon C. King was installed as the new pastor. A nephew of the late Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr., he began several new ministries during his tenure which included the establish ment of church managed Boy and Girl Scout troops, a singles ministry and a seniors ministry. Rev.
