Mel Watt is sworn in Monday in Washington, D.C. as head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency by
Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx as his wife, Eulada, holds the Bible. Foxx is the former mayor of
Charlotte, and Watt, a resident of the Queen City, represented Charlotte and a number of other N.C. cities
and towns as the state's 12th District representative in the U.S. House. Watt also had a ceremonial swear
ing ceremony at the White House on Monday, with Vice President Joe Biden giving the oath.

ent the Martin Luther King Jr. Day
keynote speech at 7 p.m. in Wait
Chapel at Wake Forest University.
The event is free and open to the
public.
On Saturday, Jan. 18, Wake
Forest will host the 2014 MLK Day
of Service Read-In in the Benson

19, Wake Forest will host the 9th Annual GospelFest at 3
p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall. Ernest Pugh, Charles Clark
