Parks. IN MEMORIAM SMITH Frankie Powell Smith was born to William Powell and Bessie Simpson Smith in Winston Salem, North Carolina on December 8, 1936. Frankie matriculated through the Winston Salem Public School System gradu ating from Atkins High School in 1955. After graduation, Frankie moved to California, where in 1956 she married her high school sweetheart Earl Byrd Neal Jr. who was in the Navy. The union produced three children, Steven Todd, Shawn Tracy and Sonya Teresa Neal. Frankie went on the have a long career in the medical field serving as a nursing assistant; first at Long Beach Veterans Hospital and then for 30 plus years at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Ton-ance, California. Frankie retired from nursing in 2001 with the goal of traveling and spending quality time with her husband, chil dren and grandchildren. With junkets throughout the United States and abroad to Paris, Rome, and the Western Caribbean, Frankie got her wish and enjoyed retirement. Frankie received Christ at an early age. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Los Angeles, CA. She was a kind and sweet spirit, with a com passion and willingness to serve, as proved by her vocation in life. Frankie loved her family and friends and show ered them all with her remarkable love. Frankie leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 57 years. Earl B. SC | and was raised U in Winston- H Salem, NC. I Rodney, a res- n ident of Altadena. CA was the Chief Financial Officer for the Operating Engineers Trust Fund/ IUOE Local #12 in Pasadena, CA. Rodney was the only child born to the union of the late Mary Duncan and James E. Duncan. He was lovingly entrust ed to and raised by Rebecca Greene and the late Adell Greene in Winston-Salem. He had a passion for learning. A product of the Winston Salem Forsyth County School District, he grad uated with honors from Parkland High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Appalachian State University (ASU) in Boone, NC. While at ASU, Rodney made his tory by becoming the first African-American cheerleader at the uni versity. After graduating from ASU, the city of Winston-Salem hired him as an internal audi tor. Mr. Goodwin contin ued his professional career with General Electric in Chicago, IL. He made a professional move to Pasadena, CA in 1987 to be an Auditor for Congress Financial Corp and worked as an Internal Revenue Service Agent in Laguna Niguel. In 1997, he became a Senior Manager at Southern California Regional Rail Authority in Los Angeles. Rodney loved the Lord and joined the Second Baptist Church in Monrovia, CA in 1996 and was actively involved with the Brotherhood Laymen League. He served as secretary for over 10 years. He also provided his accounting expertise to the Joseph H. Smith ar. Memorial Scholarship Foundation and was their treasurer. Rodney was instru mental in transforming his family's semi-annual reunion into a non-profit corporation, the Circle G Corporation. For each reunion he proudly cre ated a keep sake pro gram for each reunion that included detailed family history and an ever growing family tree. He enjoyed family reunions, listen ing to gospel music, col lege sports, laughing, being with his family and having fun with friends. He was also actively involved in many community activi ties including being a mentor for male youth at John Muir High School, he proudly contributed as campaign treasurer for two terms to Terrence William's elections to the Monrovia School Board. Rodney dedicat ing more than 200 hours volunteer hours to President Barack Obama's campaign. Preceded in death by his mother, Mary Goodwin Duncan, his dad Adell Greene and two brothers, Kelvin Sistrunk and Wendell Goodwin, Rodney leaves to cherish his memory a loving father, James Duncan?Plainfield, NJ; his devoted mom. Rebecca Greene, his pre cious daughter, Andrea Renee Moses, one dar ling sister, Tracey L. Greene all from Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Kendell P. Sistrunk of Bridgeport. CT; a host of uncles, aunts, two nieces, three nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, also his best friend, Donald Richardson of Washington, DC; and a lifelong friend, Carlos Carrillo of Altadena, CA.
