Bank employees help out at Senior Services' center SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE 1 ~ Senior Services' Elizabeth and Tab Williams Adult Day Center was again selected by BB&T's Lighthouse Project as a recipient of the services of its volunteers. On June 4, volunteers from BB&T helped Williams Center participants with games, indoor gardening activities and assist ing staff with a variety of tasks, including organizing office spaces, creating a Veterans Garden and sprucing up the courtyard with a new raised garden bed and hanging bas kets. Associates from BB&T IT Services, Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem volunteered 120 hours of their time to help. "We are so blessed," said Kathy Long, Senior Services' vice president of Adult Day Services, who noted that the Williams Center received some "extremely helpful items and facelifts in different areas." She expressed her appreciation for BB&T's diligence in plan ning and coordinating all the work and to the volunteers for committing their time. The Williams Center, a national award-winning facili ty, provides creative program ming and professional, com passionate care for individuals suffering from Alzheimer's dis ease or some other form of memory impairment. "We wanted to work with Senior Services because of the great work they do in Forsyth County," said team captain, Tera Thomas, of BB&T's IT Services. "We're proud to team up with them and help in any way we can." The BB&T volunteers are taking part in the company's sixth annual Lighthouse Project. The teams each select ed a project to assist a nonprof it agency to make a positive impact on the lives of people in need. BB&T hopes their efforts encourage others in the community to volunteer their time and support organizations such as Senior Services. BB&T associates have donated more than 265,000 hours in volunteer service and touched the lives of more than 8 million people since the inception of the BB&T Lighthouse Project in 2009. Associates overwhelmingly voted to bring back the initia tive this year. As an organization that relies on volunteers to carry out its mission. Senior Services applauds BB&T's volunteer involvement in the community and invites other members of the community to follow their example as they work to improve the quality of life of Forsyth County's seniors.
