He is telling them that all things are possible through God. There are several theories about Jesus declaration, "Receive the Holy Spirit." I'm sure that your Sunday school commentaries address this. In Acts 1:1-3, the disciples, now only 11, don't seem to be scared, confused or have the mind set of orphans as Jesus tells them to wait for the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem. Their task according to verse 23 is to announce th? avail ability of forgiveness of sins. Forgiveness comes from God alone through His Son's sacrifice. To ful fill this task, they must receive the Holy Spirit. k Life's Application: I've researched so very much on verse 22 of this lesson. I still can't explain it with clarity and confi dence; so I left it alone. On this journey called life at times we are fearful and unsure as chaos swirls all around us. We are lost and confused but we ask for help and when the Spirit comes a calmness sets in even when there are no answers. This, my sisters and brothers, passes all understanding! His pres ence empowers and directs our paths. We can't do any thing for God without the power of the Holy Spirit. Some of us tried and failed. Walking closer to God is a personal choice that can only be achieved by the power of the Spirit. Our intentions are not enough!
