World Blood Donor Day is June 14 SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The American Red Cross seeks eligible donors to give blood in honor of World Blood Donor Day, June 14, and throughout the summer to help ensure a sufficient blood supply for patients in need. Summer is an especial ly difficult time to collect enough blood to meet the needs of hospital patients. Many schools that host blood drives are out of ses sion during the summer, and regular donors are often vacationing, poten tially making them less available to give. World Blood Donor Day highlights the constant need for donors - during the summer and throughout the year. Supermodel Niki Taylor, the celebrity spokesperson for World Blood Donor Day, fully understands the importance of blood donations. In 2001, she was in a near fatal car accident and received about 100 pints of blood. To this day, she attributes her survival to the blood donors and doc tors who helped save her life. Those who come to donate blood with the Red Cross Monday through Sunday, June 8-14, will receive a limited-edition Nexcare give bandage in one of eight global-inspired designs in honor of World Blood Donor Day. Eligible donors are encouraged to choose their day to make a difference. Donors of all blood types - especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative - are needed. To make an appoint ment to give blood, down load the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcross blood.org or call 1-800 RED CROSS (1-800-733 2767). They have rejected The Law due to their wor ship of false gods. God will send fire to Jerusalem (Judah's capital) that will destroy their military might. That prophe cy will be fulfilled in 586 BC. Traveling to Israel, the prophet delivers a similar mes sage. Their sins are numerous as well. In verses 6-8, he names a few of them. He calls out the judges, the creditors, and the rich who pervert justice. In verses 7-8, most scholars interpret this as temple pros titution. Some commentaries excluded verses 9-16. Israel is consumed with greed and selfishness. The prophet reminds them of God's previous actions on their behalf. The prophets and the Nazirite are gifts to them to care for their spiritual needs. What do they do? They silence the prophets and treat the Nazirites badly. No matter their strength and power, God's judgment is coming and they have no defense! In 722 BC Israel will fall to the Assyrians. Life's Application: We are exactly like Israel in the north and Judah in the south. They do what they want, knowing ? that it is wrong and expect God to continue to bless them. Unfortunately, some of us think that having our names on the church roll gives us "one up man ship" over oth ers. God has a standard that believers are to live by - no exceptions! Is God pleased with our behaviors and attitudes? Examine the man in the mirror. Does greed and self ishness call the shots? We will delve into our answers as the quarter progresses. Don't be fooled. His judgment will come to us one day just like it came to Israel and Judah. WIV fpifny^ | ?
