W-S Foundation announces grants SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The Winston-Salem Foundation announces 22 Community Grants total ing $451,810 that will touch the lives of many liv ing in Forsyth County. Grants were awarded to organizations in the fol lowing program areas: ani mal welfare, arts and cul ture, community and eco nomic development, edu cation, environment, health, human services, public interest, and recre ation. ?Center for Smart Financial Choices $14,560 to hire a part-time youth program educator ?Financial Pathways of the Piedmont - $28,000 for a program coordinator for the Asset Building Coalition ?Forsyth Community Food Consortium $42,000 to support the Cnrcittk C*ommnmttr i uiajtu vuuuiiuuu^ Food Consortium for a second year ?Forsyth Humane Society - $25,000 for the capital campaign ?Hispanic League - $6,100 for an organization al assessment and a fund development plan ?iCan House Services - $38,850 to hire a program assistant ?Junior Achievement of Central NC - $24,000 for a programs manager ?Leadership Winston Salem - $28,000 for a full time program and alumni coordinator ?National Cycling Center - $25,000 for a part time temporary liaison and technology to support administrative needs ?NC Cooperative Extension Service, Forsyth County - $30,000 to con tinue funding the restora tion of the Arboretum at Tanglewood ?NC Harm Reduction Coalition - $10,000 for a second year of support for an outreach worker and a health educator for the overdose prevention pro gram ?North Star Center - $10,000 for a part-time center manager ?Old Hickory Council, Boy Scouts of America - $30,000 for a full-time marketing director ?Samaritan Ministries - $11,000 for a strategic plan ?Sawtooth School for Visual Art - $24,000 for a development assistant for a second year ?Shepherd's Center of Greater Winston-Salem - $25,000 for the capital campaign ?Southside United Health Center - $35,000 for two part-time nurse practitioners for a second year ?TCK Providence - $25,000 to expand the culi nary training and catering programs through Providence Restaurant ?Triad Stage - $15,000 for a development position for a second year ?Winston-Salem Indians - $500 to pay regis tration fees for youth who cannot afford to participate ?Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools - $800 for a pro gram on cultural diversity and social justice at Walkertown Middle School * W i n s t o n - Salem/Forsyth County Schools - $4,000 for mate rials to assist students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in classroom learning The Winston-Salem Foundation is a community foundation that supports charitable programs in the greater Forsyth County area. Founded in 1919 with a $1,000 gift, it now administers approximately 1,300 funds and had total custodial assets of $384.3 million at the end of 2014. Photo by Tevin Sanson Waiting for a taste Customers wait to get a taste of FAO Cafe & Cake Kitchen, a new restaurant inside the Marketplace Mall, 2101 Peters Creek Parkway. The restaurant is owned and operated by Chef Pamela Cager, a local minority female business owner.
