Eos/ Forsyth Eagles East Forsyth features promising cast of newcomers hungry to win tournament BY CRAIG T. GREENLEE FOR THE CHRONICLE East Forsyth is young and inex perienced with five freshmen, six sophomores and no returnees from last year's team that finished 19-5 overall and 10-0 in the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference. A year ago, the Eagles finished third in the Lash-Cnronicle tournament. This year, they are the No. 3 seed. Even though it's still early in the season, it's clear that East Forsyth will be led by a promising group of sophomores who played on the ninth-grade team last year. Coach Rodney Minor will lean heavily on Tanis Samuels and Sayyid Dalton to set the tone and tempo for this group. There's no doubt that Samuels and Dalton are the cornerstones. Both are capable of creating space to get their shot off and both are skilled passers who get the ball to the right people at the right time. These two spearhead the defense and are the keys to the Eagles applying pressure and forcing turnovers. Bradley Hall delivers as a savvy point guard who can score as well as distribute the basketball. Freshman Jack Eggleston is proving himself as a productive back-up in the Eagles backcourt. In the post, power forward Trenton West provides solid play at both ends of the floor. The Eagles will get additional help with the addition of the foot ball players who recently ended their season in the semifinals of the Class 4-AA state playoffs. Given this team's overall talent level. East Forsyth is viewed as a viable contender for the Lash Chronicle crown this year. The Eagles are hungry, in part because they have never won this tourna ment.
