and members of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist

April 3^ at 11 am. Rev. Warren Napper will be the
guest preacher for the morning service. Come cele

Men of all ages are invited to join First Christian
Church, 1130 N. Main St., Kemersville, for breakfast
on April 2 at 7:30 am. in the Fellowship Hall. At 8:30
a.m. Harvey Titer will be our guest speaker. Free tick

107th church and 37th pastor's anniversary
Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1301 C. E. Gray Dr.,
will celebrate their 107th anniversary and Pastor Dr.
Rev. Charles Gray's 37th anniversary on Sunday,
April 3 at 4 pm. The community is invited to attend
in this celebration.

'Awakening to Awareness*
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of
Winston-Salem, 4055 Robinhood Road, will hear the
Rev. Lisa Schwartz speak on "Awakening to
Awareness" at 9 re. Sunday and "Celebrate the T (in
LGBT): Justice Sunday" at 11 ajn. At the 9:15 are.
Forum, Barrie Howard will present "The Thief, the

Interfaith Tour Sunday
The Community Mosque, St. Phillips Moravian
Church in Old Salem, and Our Lady of Mercy
Catholic Church are die featured stops on the ninth
annual Interfaith Tour sponsored by Interfaith
Winston-Salem, Sunday afternoon, April 3. The tour
begins at The Community Mosque, 1419 Waughtown
St. at 2 pre. with a presentation by Imam Khalid
Griggs, and moves to St. Phillips Moravian Church,
the state's oldest African-American church still stand
ing in North Carolina, at 911 S. Main St. at 3 pre. for
comments by the Rev. Russ May. The final stop is at
Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 1730 Link
Road, at 4 pre. where Father Carl Zdancewicz will
share the story of his church. Time will be allowed for
questions and discussion at each location. Free pizza
and beverages will be served at Our Lady of Mercy
around 5 pre. Interfaith Winston-Salem is an all-vol
unteer tax-exempt nonprofit that works to build
understanding among religious and non-religious tra
ditions.

The congregation of Kimberiy Park Holiness
Church is celebrating its 97th anniversary during the
month of April, for each Sunday morning and two
afternoons during the month of April. The service
times are 11 a.m. and 4 pm. Quest churches and their
pastors slated for the 4 pna. services are Bishop T. R.
Rice of Mercy Seat Holiness Church (April 10th ) and
Bishop Arnie Joyce of Miracle Mount Carmel
Holiness Church of WV (April 17th). A fellowship
dinner will follow the morning service on April 17.
Designated ministers of the church will speak during
the 11 a.m. worship services.

A Night to Honor brad
On Sunday, April 10 at 7 p.m.. Agape Faith
Church. 2101 Lewisville-Clemmons Road,
Clemmons. will hold "A Night to Honor Israel,"
together with Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the
st pro-Israel organization in the United States.
Guest speakers include: Pastor Victor Styrsky, Gary
Bauer, the Israeli Ambassador to the United States,
Rabbi MarkCohn f rom Temple Emanuel, Jeff Epstein
and other representatives from our local and national
government. The night will feature a performance by
Violinist and Dove Award Nominee LaDonna Taylor.
This night is a night to honor the nation of Israel, the
Jewish faith, and the people of Israel. Join us as we
take a united stand fpr Israel. This is a free event and

Jesus is risen; now Christians
look to Pentecost

On March 27,
Christians worldwide cele
brated Easter, or
Resurrection Sunday, a day
they say Jesus the Christ
rose from the dead more
than 2,000 years ago. A
wooden cross with a white
cloth draped over it is a
symbol of that belief.
Now, many Christians
prepare for Pentecost, espe
cially Pentecost Sunday,
which will be May 15 this
year. This is celebrated 50
days after Easter and marks
when the Holy Spirit
descended upon the
Apostles and others who
followed Jesus.
The story can be found
in Acts 2.

Easter Sunday is celebrated by churches across the
country in a myriad of ways. The congregation of Greater
Cleveland Avenue Christian Church at 5095 Lansing
Drive featured gospel singer Vicki Winans for their
Resurrection Sunday Service.
Winans has been connected with Greater Cleveland
since she met lead pastor Bishop Sheldon McCarter 20
years ago at the Great Family Gathering the church held at
the Benton Convention Center and they have been the best
of friends since then.
"Our friendship has been tremendous and what makes
Vicki different and unique is the fact that she is so touch
able and friendly to everyone," said McCarter.

Background: Jesus
has been tempted during His 40-day fast. Jesus has taught
in the synagogue in Nazareth and so angered the people
with His declaration of being the fulfillment of prophesy
that they take Him to a cliff and are ready to throw Him
off. In Capernaum Jesus healed many and performed the
miracle of the fishes, where He said to Simon, "Launch
out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught.

ing sin: "Man thy sins are
forgiven thee." (Luke
5:20); in short Jesus' pop
ularity is building. After
spending an entire night
praying alone on the
mountain, Jo6us comes
down and names His
apostles. Then He taught
the "Sermon on the
Plain." (Luke 6:17-49)
Lesson: Jesus is in
Capernaum and hears
about a centurion who
has a sick servant. All
indication is that the centurion is a believer and has heard
of Jesus' fame. We already think positively of the centu
rion because of his concern for his servant, who is sick
unto death with the palsy. To accredit him even more, a
group of Jewish elders approach Jesus on his behalf. By
